Wrong Time

I had this idea pop into my head while I was doing dishes.

Cierra is at a family gathering and the topic of her brother James' best friend Alex liking her pops up. Some things were said and Cierra is left feeling angry.

I was forced to wear a white dress for this family occasion. I don't mind wearing a dress but this dress in particular is a bit tight and too much for the usual style I go for. It felt like my ass was about to pop out at any minute. But my mom insisted I was okay.

However I noticed that this dress was catching Alex's attention. My older brother's best friend who I'm secretly dating. We've only just begun about month ago but we haven't told my brother because he's expressed multiple times how weird he thinks it would be. Don't get me wrong I hate lying to my brother but I also hate when he's mad at me. It's just never been the right time to tell him.

We had to keep a distance and only have a few fleeting glances. Apparently we're not that inconspicuous because my aunt has already noticed and asked me about it. It's okay though because James is oblivious to it all.

I was standing next to my brother and Alex was beside him. It was a small circle of conversation and we were having a good talk before somehow the topic of my dating life was brought up.

"So when are you going to bring a boy home?" My aunt asks raising her brows like she doesn't know about Alex and I.

"I don't plan on it" I wink at Alex and he smirks.

"If I were you I'd date Alex. He's such a smart guy and you guys would look so cute together" she nudges my arm and I roll my eyes playfully at her lack of subtly.

"Yeah right" James laughs.

"You wouldn't trust me with your sister?" Alex asks curiously.

"What, you have a crush on her or something? Would you like to date her?" James crosses his arms.

"What? Ew hell no, it's just a question. I would never date your sister dude" Alex says and immediately I frown. It didn't sound playful at all like how I sounded. My Aunt's eyes widen a fraction but she turns away for a second.

"Good" James daps Alex up and I shake my head looking for an escape out of this conversation.

"I'm going to grab a drink" I try to sound chipper and head into the house to compose myself. I get saying no because he doesn't want to get caught but "ew hell no" was overkill. He really could've said he doesn't see me that way or literally anything else. I grab a beer out of the fridge and chug it down. It was disgusting but all the other alcoholic beverages were outside and my parents would kill me if they caught me drinking. I cracked open another beer and chugged that bottle down too.

"Woah woah calm down Cierra. Your parents would kill you if they saw you drinking a beer" he takes the now empty bottle from my hands. I roll my eyes and take another one out before quickly chugging that too. "Hey what's wrong? You usually don't drink, let alone chug beer" he frowns taking the bottle away from me and throwing the empty glass away.

"It's doesn't matter" I roll my eyes and try to walk around him but he stops me and traps me against the kitchen sink.

"It matters to me so what's wrong?" He asks more seriously.

"What's wrong? Alex I get not wanting my brother to know about us right now but "ew hell no" are you kidding me? That's not something your girlfriend wants to hear when you're talking about her" I cross my arms over my chest.

"Love I didn't mean it, you know I didn't. I just panicked when he asked and I thought that if I seemed repulsed by the idea he wouldn't pick up on our clear flirting" he says grabbing my hands.

"Even then you didn't have to say ew!" I move my hands from his.

"You're right I'm sorry that I said that. But if you didn't like it you know you could've spoken to me instead of chugging three beers" Alex cups my cheek. The warmth of his palm warmed my cheek and I looked up at him.

"I couldn't just pull you from my brother that would've made him even more suspicious of us" I say and he nods in agreement.

"Okay yeah I didn't think about that. But I truly am sorry. I didn't want to make you think that I hate dating you at all. I promise I love you so much and you're the highlight of my day" he gives me a soft and passionate kiss making me blush with a smile. "There's that gorgeous smile I love" he smiles and kisses my lips once more.

"I would never date your sister. I don't see her like that" James says in a mocking tone. Alex and I jump apart in surprise. "You know if you were going to lie to me and then make out with my sister you should've chose a less public spot" he shakes his head.

"I can explain" Alex panics.

"What? That you and my sister have been secretly dating and have been so obvious. Everyone knew including me and I was just waiting to see how long you'd keep it a secret. But instead I ran into you guys kissing so there wasn't any point in waiting anymore" James explains making my jaw drop a bit.

"Look we're sorry for lying. We thought you'd hate us if you found out. You know I always want your approval and I was afraid I wouldn't get it this time. Your opinion and whether we're on good terms means a lot to me" I say and he sighs before opening his arms inviting me in for a hug.

"I know and at first I was a little upset but if I could trust someone with you it would be Alex. I love you very much small fry" he kisses the top of my head and I hug him tightly. "If you even make my sister shed a tear I will end you" he looks at Alex will a look that could kill. Alex nods and they hug briefly.

"I love you too, so we have your approval?" I ask.

"Yes you have my blessing" he sighs and I hug him again even tighter.

"Thank you!" I'm so glad to have his approval it's like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. We can now be truly happy together without worrying about anyone.

The rest of the party went by fast and I was able to proudly show off Alex as my boyfriend and not keep it a secret anymore. Not that it was really a secret in the first place according to James. I'm just so happy in the moment and I couldn't be more grateful for everyone in my life.
