When I woke up, Christian was already gone. He left a note on his side of the bed though. 'I'm at work now sweetheart. I told my maid to make some food for you so it should be done by the time you wake up. I made a smoothie for you too. It's in the fridge. And before you fret, I told her to leave the house after she's done with your breakfast. I'll come back home for lunch break. Love ya. ps. I told her you only eat seafood and no meat.' With a heart at the end. Shit. This feels like a ten year relationship already and we aren't even official yet!
I get up from the bed and walk into the kitchen. I see the fruit bowl on the counter restocked with what I assume, thousands of varieties of fruits. This man is rich. And of course, next to it is my food with a fork and knife at the side. It's only 8:00 am and I am already lavished with a smoothie, salmon, sunny side up eggs and plant- based sausages. He remembers every little detail about me doesn't he? I hover my hand on top of the food. It's still warm.
I walk over to the fridge and took the smoothie out. It's purple in colour. I take a metal straw out from the drawer and tried the smoothie. 'Mmm...' I audibly moan. I hope the maid's gone. After looking around for a few reassuring moments, I sit down at the counter and cut a piece of salmon. God, this tastes so good!
After I finished the meal, I place my dish in the sink. As I was about to wash the dishes, guess who called. Black Company. Oh no. Is this his assistant calling because I didn't attend the meeting yesterday? Okay. Here goes nothing. I slide my thumb over the screen to my right. 'Hello?' I ask warily. Am I going to get fired before I even get the job? 'Hello? Mia?' Phew! Thank goodness. It's just Christian. 'Christian? What are you calling for?' I ask, curious. 'And how did you get my number?' 'Oh um. It's on your resume. And I figured you might not pick up if I call you from my phone because it's an unknown number.' Smart... 'So you've been spying on me?' I ask playfully. I heard a sigh. 'No, I have not.' 'Okay, okay. Just teasing. So, why did you call for? Did you just want me to save your number?' 'Oh, no. I just wanted to check if you were alright.' 'Yeah. I'm fine. I'm just about to do the dishes.' 'No, it's alright. The maid will do them. And it's good that you're alright.' 'Christian. I can wash my own dishes. Besides, it's only 4 things to wash.' 'But that's what I pay my maid for.' Right... 'Okay, okay. Fine. You win.' 'That's funny, because I wasn't in any sort of competition with you.' 'Don't you have work to do?' I ask in an annoyed tone. A chuckle. 'I can sense your annoyance through the screen. And no, not yet. I have a meeting in about 15 minutes. But for now, I want to talk to you.' 'You know. You're starting to simp for me.' 'Oh honey, I was already simping from the start.' I chuckled at that. 'Okay. That was a good one.' 'I'm not joking my love.' A moment later I hear the door swing open from a distance and Christian's muffled voice. I assume he was covering the mic. 'Yes? Do I really have to go now? Why are they here so early? Isn't it supposed to be in 15 more minutes?' 'Yes, sir. But they arrived early and they called for you.' 'Well, tell them I'm busy.' 'I already did, sir.' 'Oh you gotta be kidding me!' I listen in silence until I hear Christian's voice grow more and more irritated after every sentence. 'Christian? Is everything alright?' A sigh and the door swings shut. 'I'm sorry sweetheart, but the company I mentioned earlier arrived early, and they called for me.' 'Oh. That's alright then. I'll leave you to your work.' Another sigh. 'I'm sorry sweetheart.' 'That's okay. I have things to do too.' 'Okay then. I'm really sorry my love. I'll see you during my lunch break. I love you.' 'I love you too.'
I sigh. Holding the phone to my chest. Is this what it feels like to truly fall in love?
