At that moment Hana's heart felt like it had been not just ripped apart- no, it had been shredded into tiny little pieces. Her mind went blank and her head felt like it was going to explode. She wanted to scream, cry, ask them to take her instead but she knew their evil, she'd seen in in action before. They'd take both of them and then neither would stand a chance of saving the other. So she stood, silent, in the most pain you can ever experience. Her best friend, the only person that she loved left alive, stripped away by the same force her mother and brother had been before.
She cried and felt pity only for a short while, then Hana had a realisation. It was her, she was the one that was the issue, why else would everyone around her have been taken? She grabbed Julia's hand and whispered into her sweet smelling hair one last time
"Love you Juls, say hi to my mum and Tin for me, I'll be up to meet you there soon" and with that Julia walked forward, a solemn pathway being formed through the middle of the crowd with the great 5 stood smugly in the background. Julia turned around one last time, looked into Hana's blue eyes and mouthed
"Love you too Hana, but you need a shower", Hana smiled through teary eyes. The whole circumference of her head was hot, burning, the pressure was building up and her eyes were so full of tears she couldn't blink, it felt as if her brain would explode out of her scull, her heart burned too in her chest. She was willing them to leave so she could just cry. Finally after what was probably a minute but felt like an eternity, they left down the ladder.
Hana collapsed to the floor along with Julia's parents and little brother James, Elder Rune did what she does best. She sat beside Hana's shaking body and just held her, didn't talk or anything as she knew it was not yet time to. Hana loved Julia, an incredible amount, her mind was racing with thoughts.
'I'm the reason everyone keeps dying'
'I'm bad luck, people should stay away from me'
'If I'd have just left Julia to live her life without me would she be being taken to her death right now'
"You think badly of yourself over something out of your control, what is the logic in that, hm?" Elder Rune almost read her mind.
Now Hana did see what she meant, she wasn't being logical whatsoever but what Elder Rune did not understand was how Hana felt. All who she lost was lost during the ice age where she couldn't protect them and was at least with them, helping until the very end. Hana did not get that pleasure. She was not able to, she had no control over who was taken yet that wasn't what bothered her, it was the fact that she could not reverse any decisions made, or do anything to ease the pain of those sacrificed. In this moment however she knew she had to listen to Elder Rune's advise.
