My Heart Hurts
-
Chapter 3Shesmu's gaze rested on Jane for what seemed to be hours, taking in the cold sweat she had on her forehead.
Internally he thought she would be a delicacy to enjoy, but with all her duties he probably wouldn't find someone as good as her on short notice so he refrained.
Just from her body language he could tell she was scared of him, that settled him, his earlier interaction with them caused him to doubt himself but it seems like he's still capable of everything he was before.
The tension in her shoulders visibly relaxing when her master turned his hungry eyes away from her, though she knew how valuable she was that didn't mean his highness wouldn't get rid off her on a whim.
It was an unspoken fact that everyone, that served the prince knew but ignored, His Highness enjoyed the flesh of others.
And while she was in a constant state of fear within even the same building as him, she nor any other maid of the Amethyst palace would never think to betray him.
Fear contributed to the undying loyalty, but they all knew the real reason was because of his highness' charisma.
Whether the assassins or other prisoners underneath the palace, they had all within minutes of torture confessed any and everything, later they were heard trying to obtain the slightest of Shesmu's attention by any means necessary.
She still recalls the one that opened his own ribcage for his highness after learning of the prince's tastes, the way his lungs were still moving, the slow beats of his heart preserved with magic.
Having just woken up and seeing his highness breathing heavily she thought something was wrong, but when Jane stepped closer she realized that Shesmu was blushing heavily influenced by the gruesome sight in front of them.
What terrified her most of all though? Was his uncanny ability to seduce his prey and lure them in, making them willingly offer themselves to please him.
But she knew better than to show anything on her face, after all the prince had not given his opinion on the Emperor or princess yet.
That either meant that they were unimportant or they had interested him, both were terrible choices as they both had the same ending, though one much better than the other.
The meaning was clear after they had arrived at the royal gardens, it was filled with the kind of flowers her prince hated all magically fake, his highness wanted someone who wouldn't cower and squirm in the face of the Tyrant Emperor.
She was known for her unchanging face which stayed the same no matter what, it was more of a curse when she was younger but now it seemed to be a blessing.
If it would please their prince, she would do anything.
Athanasia was confused when she was told by Claude that they were having a tea party, as normally they had them on Wednesday's not Monday's.
But then he said they would be having a special guest, she would like to believe she knew him enough to know that Claude hated sharing his time with anyone.
She was an exception, he probably thought of her as a toy more than his daughter.
That didn't deter her from continuing with her plan, getting into the Emperor's good graces. So with the feeling of cold eyes upon her, she quickly slipped on an innocent smile.
"Papa! You said that Athy would have a friend to play with, where are they?"
Running to him, clutching his loose robes she looked up at him with curious eyes.
Though she was internally thinking about who could be brave enough to make the Emperor wait, she had to give it to whoever they certainly had guts.
Claude didn't pay her any attention, opting to sit down and drink the fragrant tea that was made for them.
"Your brother will be your new playmate."
And as if he didn't drop a bomb on her, he went back to sipping the flowery tea.
Athy was in shock, her mind racing, but one thought was the most asked in her head.
'Since when did Athanasia have a brother?!'
Of course she didn't let it show how shocked she was, no actual little girl would know what having a sibling meant, but she did.
And while she did see with his looks, how the woman would throw themselves to his feet, that's when she suddenly had a terrible thought.
'What if he's just like this Bastard?!'
Glancing at Claude almost scared he could read what she was thinking, she lowered her head as she processed the information.
Idly she remembered that there was talk of another novel series about Jeanette's struggle on the throne, and the talk of a new male character who helped her take control.
But she never paid any attention to it because she thought it would be just as cheesy as the first novel.
Now she really regrets not having read it.
Even more so when she saw a beautiful teen entering the garden followed by a maid dressed in all white that made her black hair stand out, her whole face covered by a veil reaching her collar bones.
Distracted by the holy woman, Athy didn't notice when they arrived in front of her only snapped out of her daze when she saw them bow.
"Blessings and glory upon the sun of the Obelian Empire."
The boy in front of her raised his head staring into her eyes, a chill went down her back at how cold those jeweled eyes were.
He resembled Claude too much, in fact she could even say she was looking at a younger version of Father abeit more androgynous looking. He was prettier than Lily...
Author's Note:
Sorry for all the Athy fans, I don't really like her. And I'm trying to not just make her a bad character, but like how old is her soul?! And while you guys can say something like "she didn't have a childhood and is reliving it" okay? That doesn't mean she has to be so...idk something about her just makes me mad...
Also sorry about this chapter being shorter, my biology teacher randomly dropped that there was going to be a test and I had to study.
