"He did what?" Remus asks, though he says it as more of a statement than a question, his face starts to splotch with red and tears rim his bottom eyelids, making his black bottom eyelashes wet.
"Well, he-" Remus interrupts James."He thinks I'm a monster, Prongs."
James' frown turns farther down than Remus would think possible, he didn't even know James Potter was capable of a frown.
"He doesn't, Moons."
"Please don't call me that."
"Okay, Rems," James tests the waters, not knowing if he's overstepping, when Remus doesn't interfere or flinch at his words, he continues, "in all my years of knowing Sirius, he has never mentioned one time that he thinks your a monster. He has only ever talked about you with love and compassion."
"Why are you defending him, James?" Remus takes a quick breath in.
"I'm not, I promise, I'm not. Sirius is a trillion percent in the wrong right now, and I'm currently fighting every single stitch of my being not to go on and give him a nice kick in the balls and slap in the face, I'm trying to comfort you, now."
Remus would usually laugh about now, and he tries, he really does, but the wretched hollow feeling in his gut is fighting against his joy, swallowing it like a black hole. Sirius Black thinks he's a monster. Remus no longer wishes to think about Sirius, or James, or anyone. Remus Lupin wishes to be gone. Away. Away from humanity, he doesn't want anyone to think he's a monster, especially not Sirius Black. Two minutes ago, if Remus got asked, “who do you trust the most?” he would proudly answer, “my boyfriend, Sirius Black.”, now he's near positive he'd answer “no one.”
