3rd person POV
THE DAY JJ met Lillian Johnson, he knew he was a goner.
They were in second grade and the teacher had just finished introducing Lillian. Half of the school year had already been over so it was strange to get a new kid around this time of the year. Mrs. Sherry had told everyone that Lillian was too smart for the first graders, so they had to move her up into this class.
Lillian had no choice but to sit on the only free seat between two boys, a blonde and a brunette.
"Smart ass." The kid behind Lillian chuckled.
"Better have a smart ass than a dumb one like yours." The Brunette boy stood up for her.
"Im John Brooker Routledge but you can call me John B." He turned to look back at the sunkissed girl. "And thats JJ"
"It's nice to meet you." The blonde- JJ replied.
"Im Lillian but my friends call me Lily." she introduced herself.
"Lily it is." JJ smiled.
"Since were already using nicknames, we're best friends now." John B said, some sort of certainty in his voice.
And because when you are 7 and 8 and someone tells you something, you believed them. Lily definitely did. She believed that John B and JJ would be her best friends. Little did she know that nine years later that would still be the case.

Lillian's POV
"Lily!" I heard my dad yelling from the stairs "You're on in ten, get ready!"
"I'll be there in a sec!" I called to him, as I placed and empty coat hanger back on it's rack. I had just been for a surf and was throwing on some dry clothes.
It was not common for people to have two jobs on this side of the island. The Cut. Dad ran his own little shop right beneath our apartment called „The shack". It was basically anything one could need in the Obx, from swimming suites, to surfboards, to fishing rods. Besides that Dad went to work with Heyward, Popes dad, at his fish shop. And whenever Dad had a shift there I was stuck working in the shack
I ran a hand through my wet hair and glanced in the mirror one last time. I frown at the sight of my slightly sunburnt nose and cheeks. I was sure that dad was going to give me a lecture for it.
I quickly make my way out of my room and down the stairs, stopping once I see dad.
"Mornin, pops." I grin and grab an apple from the fruit bowl behind me, giving him a kiss on the cheek as I walk past him.
"Lillian! There's sand and salt water everywhere in here!" He calls out to me.
I cheekily smile, running down the stairs. "My bad!"
I hear him sigh. He always said I was one of his most prized possessions in his life and that was that. After the divorce between my parents years ago, all he ever wanted to do was make sure I was happy.
