CHAPTER SIXTEEN
- One Interesting Dinner Party -

Duchess Diana always tended to Cheshire as if they were sisters. She was always there, cleaning the girl of blood and ash, wiping her tears and tending to her permanent smile. Her kind heart had been unexpected as most loose their sense of humanity a month into the voyage, and yet Diana always held her head high and thought of herself as better then Mad Hatter. Though she'd never say that.

One night, after cleaning Cheshire's grin with a damp cloth and tender dabs, Duchess Diana had palmed a strand of the girl's long hair. She brushed a thumb through the delicate ends in thought, feeling Cheshire blue eyes watching curiously.

"Do you ever do anything with it?" Diana had asked.

Cheshire shook her head, her lips staying sealed shut.

"Here, you should braid it," Diana suggested, standing to collect a hairbrush before she sat behind the girl. Cheshire had flinched when the brush initially combed through her tangled hair, but she slowly got use to the touch and allowed Diana to do as she pleased.

As she sat in front of the vanity mirror, Cheshire tried to remember what Diana had explained that night. She had done the braid twice before letting Cheshire have a go, walking her through the simple hairstyle step by step. She heard her friend's delicate voice in her ear as she struggled before undoing it and starting again.

Diana always said it was okay to restart, and she was the reason Cheshire became comfortable with not being perfect at everything. Whereas anyone else in the crew would run to the Captain and inform him of her screw up, Diana was always more then willing to help Cheshire fix it.

After three attempts, Cheshire braided her hair to a satisfactory level, hearing Diana's praise in her ear. "You don't have to be perfect at everything."

Seeing the little appetisers and bottles of wine made Cheshire stomach ache painfully. It didn't help that Luffy wouldn't stop saying how delicious the pastries were, holding them tauntingly near the blonde girl.

"You gotta try one!" Luff exclaimed, taking another as Sham walked past with a fresh plate. "They're so crisp and delicious!"

Cheshire chuckled softly as she watched the boy stuff his face, crunching loudly much to the servant's disgust.

"Maybe just one..." she murmured, taking Luffy offering and turning her back to him and Usopp. She peeled back the new mask hesitantly, pushing the small snack into her mouth and pulling the mask back over her lips. Her eyes widened at the explosion of taste on her mouth. "Woah..." she hummed.
