Talon's POV

"Eve, I am so sorry." Leah apologized, putting her face firmly between her hands, possibly wondering what went wrong.

Eve settled more comfortably into Luca's arms, resting her head against his chest. "It's fine, Leah." She visibly relaxed as he stroked the fine strands of her blonde hair.

That should have been me I thought. I let my anger get the best of me and now she was in the arms of another man, receiving comfort.

"So, Luca." Ashley began. "I hear you got promoted to head chef."

He sat up straighter, continuing stroking her hair. "Yes, Nicolo and I went out for drinks to celebrate; I also seized the opportunity to make a few changes to the menu."

Eve tilted her head towards him."Nicolo, is he coming tomorrow?" Her eyes lit up in delight.

He gazed back into her eyes. "He wasn't, but I'll make a call and he'll be here."

She gave him a breathtaking smile that seemed to make the world stop and anger ran in my veins, when he returned his own. "Thanks, Luca."

"So, Leah, how's Harvard?" He then asked, his eyes sparked with interest at Eve's younger sister. He started an entire conversation with her, yet I hadn't spoken to her at all.

Shame, Michael fits in this homely picture better than you..... Reyeziel's voice gloated in my mind. I looked behind me, where he stood in the shadows, leaning against the fireplace. A cruel smile was fixated on his lips, as he eyed me.

I'd appreciate it of you stayed the hell out of my mind. I replied, lethally.

Then keep your jealousy to your self, it's sickening how thick it is in the air.

'Get your ass in the kitchen.' I mouthed at him.

He sauntered into our vast kitchen and seated himself onto a stool at the island.

"You can't have her, Rey."I boldly stated.

He eyed me, laughing evily. "The Reaper isn't of much use, until she's dead and her soul's fair game."

"She won't I'll protect her with my life." I crossed my arms.

"They'll come for her, Azazel, you are powerful, yes? But even you can't fight off thousands of hell hounds and demons at a time."

My shoulders tensed and I gained back control. "I will protect the one I love at all costs."

"Love?" He scoffed. "What could you possibly know of love? Demons do not love. Do not confuse your love with lust, Azazel."

"Do not doubt my emotions, Rey." I backhanded him, throwing him across the room.

He got up in an instant, sending a blow to my face. "Lucifer, requests your presence."

"Tell, Luci to suck my d-"

"He'll kill the reaper, if you do not go."

I felt the pit of my stomach run cold. "When will he need me?"

"No later than the day after Christmas."

"Tell him I'll meet him, but no harm must come to, Evelyn."

"Well my business is done here."
He said straightening his jacket.

A ring of fire appeared around him, smoke lifting to the ceiling, clouding the kitchen except for us. "You're banishing me to Hell?"

"
Reyeziel, et accipiam vos observari inferno poenas in 25th Legio!"

"Reyeziel, you are hereby banished to Hell and will receive punishment in the 25th Legion!"

Blood curdling sceams of terrorand torture filled the kitchen and the hand of Abaddon shot from the floor, pulling Reyeziel with him.

In seconds, the smoke had cleared and there were no traces of the incident that had happened.

I crept through the shadows, but Eve's voice stopped me in my tracks.

"Thank you, Luca." She kissed his cheek and he smiled like a lovesick fool.

He took the her hand and placed a kiss on her palm. "Ciao, bello." He bounded off the stairs, whistling a hymn.

I teleported to the room, my back faced the door. Her attempts to be silent, were short lived as she walked towards me.

I met her halfway and took her hand placing her palm against my cheek, sighing. "I'm sorry for acting like an ass today. I knew that you were in danger and you had a right to know."

She placed her other palm on my neglected cheek. "Forgiven. But Talon if we're going to make this work, no more secrets."

"No more secrets." I falsely promised.

"So what happened between you and Reyeziel?" She asked, changing the subject.

"We just conversed on a few subjects, nothing to worry about." I smiled, but the lie felt both funny and familiar on my tongue.

I felt betraying her, would somehow help her in the end.

Besides a little lie never hurt anyone...
