As the first week of January was coming to a close and their deadline neared, nothing concrete had been figured out yet. They all sat silently on the couch as random shows played quietly on TV.

At some point Mia fell asleep and with her feet at Danila's side and head at Kirill's, the two best friends sat on opposite sides of the couch with nothing to say to each other. When Danila gently threw a blanket over Mia, Kirill stated,

"You want her."

Danila didn't say anything and continued blankly looking at the TV.

"And she wants you. Maybe nothing happened between you two but...I'm not blind. This whole situation was a mistake." He continued on as Danila responded,

"Ask her, why are you asking me?"

"I don't need to. I know she wants her revenge and she wants to hurt me, but maybe that's secondary to how much she wants you. I fucked up that I didn't tell her about him and tried to hide it all on my own."

"Wow. The Tsar himself admits that he did something wrong. I need to burn this moment in my brain." Danila was latching onto every word.

"You're going to give Oleg what he wants. And then he will take her on vacation, and I will finish him there. There is no other way, we can't kill him here. I've thought about it non stop for the last week."

Danila said nothing at first but then decided he should confirm what he heard,

"You want me to fuck your wife?"

"Of course not. But we need it, so you're going to do it." Kirill spoke with concrete resolve.

"Whatever you say, boss." And with these words Danila stood up and retreated to his room both elated at the prospect of getting his hands on Mia and disgusted that this is what his life had come to.

The next morning, Danila stood in front of Kirill shirtless and arms crossed as Kirill sat calmly on the couch. Danila was nervous. He was chewing his cheek and slowly pacing.

"How the fuck are you going to make her do it?" He asked in Russian.

"Easy. First of all, we have no choice and she understands that. And secondly..." he paused,
"Just watch." He said annoyed.

As Mia emerged from her shower with wet hair and fresh moisturizer on her face, she ignored both men in the living room as she made her way to the kitchen.

"Mia." Kirill spoke and she only turned her head briefly at him.

"You and Danila will go to Oleg's and do what he asks for. The day after tomorrow." Kirill said as he looked at Danila.

Mia thought she heard wrong and turned around slowly but no, she was pretty sure he pronounced those words. She breathed fast as her hands and feet broke out in cold sweat. She walked up to them both and looking at Kirill, asked innocently,

"Did you have a stroke?"

Kirill looked at her calmly.

"No. Do you have another idea? We are trapped. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. We have this word in Russian that you don't have in English, nado, and it means it's something that must be done, no arguments."

Danila closed his eyes waiting for her to lose it on Kirill but she stayed silent as she slowly sat down. A few more minutes escaped in silence as the clock ticked,

"No. Figure something else out." She spoke defiantly and Kirill recognized the temper in her which drove him wild. He loved it. But today he knew he had to sacrifice her so he could keep them all alive for a little bit longer.
