Have you ever thought about death? Such a beautiful yet such frightening concept. One day you are here- the next you just aren't. You never really know when you're going to die it just happens. You never know if today will be your last day if this will be your last meal or even your last breath.

Well Y/N thought a lot about that. Maybe it was the stress from her demanding professors, or maybe it was just her getting lost in thought, again, instead of working on her essay on Social psychology. She really had it difficult to focus- especially when she had something on her mind.

Instead of continuing to bask in her own negative little pool, the girl decided to clear her head and ventured out into the wilderness (her local 7/11) to hunt for food (get herself some gummy worms).

Looking at the clock it said in bold:

𝟮𝟯:𝟰𝟰

"If I'm quick I'll be back in no time."

She thought to herself. Oh how wrong she was...

The girl put on her shoes and took her jacket in hand as she went out the front door and into the darkness of the night.

The temperature was tolerable, not something usual for this time of the year. Y/N had expected it to be colder, but it's not like she was complaining. After all, October is known for its chilly nights, seasonal depression, and all the pumpkin related foods and drinks (looking at you, Starbucks. You and your posh Pumpkin spice late) (no hate though, I love it.)

At some point Mother Nature decided to duck with her, and the elements were no longer on her side- a cold wild appeared. It booed and it roared, It hit her right in the face. She put on her jacket and continued onward, despite of the natural forced, who were clearly trying to set her back.

She began to wonder if she had made the right decision, questioned why she put herself through something like this at a time like this.
The 3rd year at uni is always the shittiest- You get bombarded with work, papers, essays, and etcetera, but you don't have the ability to look forward to graduating in the near future.

The thought of her getting back home and round up for the night is what kept her going, and it's what would have kept her going (literally) until something unexpected happened. She saw something in the shadows to her right...

It was a little creature. Hunched over, its spine crocked and spiky. Its bones visible underneath a layer of white skin that looked bruised and dirty. It's Vertebrae looked like they would pop right out of it's back and pierce right through the thin skin.
The thing turned its head to look at her. Its face gaunt and devoid of any emotion. It possessed three solid green eyes, one in the middle of its forehead, and the other two on either side of its head, towards the back, but to her they were all looking right into her soul. What made things worse was the nose and mouth, or better said, lack there of...
She also noticed its hands. They were long- too long for a creature of such stature. Its fingers elongated and shaped like claws. Claws that looked sharp and deadly. Each finger looked like a small scythe, like they had the ability to take away someone's soul with just a simple swipe...

Y/N was flabbergasted. This looked like a monster right out of someone's sick and twisted nightmare. It didn't look like it belonged in the real world, so that left Y/N to wonder if this is some kind of hallucination, or if maybe she had fallen asleep while studying and this was all just one big dream. Y/N was appalled by it, by its appearance, but she couldn't look away. She couldn't...

But before she could come up with what to do, the creature turned its back to her and ran into the deep, dark forest- probably filled with similar devilish creatures sent from the beyond to torment the living...
But she was also fascinated. It moved in such a peculiar way- It didn't run on all fours like an animal, but neither did it walk on two legs like a human. But rather, it crouched, like a funny little goblin.

Well, there goes sometimes you don't see every day...

She eventually gathered the courage to get going to where she was headed- she figured that just standing in one place and staring into a dark forest for a prolonged period of time would made her seem unhinged or like a drug addict. She just started walking, never taking her focus away from her peripheral vision.

On her walk from the store, she felt rather strange. As if there was someone or something watching her every move, her every step, counting down her breaths. She knew something was wrong, but decided to blame it on the fact that in the last 48 hours, she had 6 hours of sleep Or even less. She didn't keep track at this point. It was mid-term season after all. Pretty much all of her friends and colleges were like this and besides, she's heard worse things happen to people who are sleep deprived- so one scary apparition shouldn't stop her or drag her down. Right?....

When she got back to her home she made a horrific discovery- she had forgotten lock the door.

Tatum was so going to kill her for this.
Her roommate was paranoid about almost everything. But that was understandable, being a woman was hard enough already, but add creeps who show up naked and offer unsolicited advice about how to have the best anal sex at 4AM would disturb even the sanest of us- like Jane Pauley. So yes, ever since that day all doors and windows had to be locked and Y/N never dared oppose her wishes- she was right after all.

She made sure to lock the door after entering. The last thing she wanted tomorrow was Tatum being up her ass as to why Y/N would be so irresponsible as to leave the front door unlocked. But there was nothing else she could do really, so what was the point in her worrying?

She put her jacket and bag down and started making her way over to her room.

Upon entry she noticed... a smell coming from her open window. It smelled like sulfur, but not exactly, because it lacked the metal-ly sense. This is exactly how she had imagined The Grim Reaper to smell like.

She tried to concentrate, she really did but the smell just annoyed her nostrils to the point of almost becoming numb from the awful, devilish smell. What was that from anyway? Y/N did read somewhere that that's what a leak usually smells like, but she was too damn tired at that point to even think straight, let alone worry for some smell that probably had a reasonable explanation.

After finishing up for the night she got up to her put her pyjamas on. God knows what she'll read tomorrow after 2 almost completely sleepless nights. Probably a lot of spelling mistakes, some grammatical errors here and there, she thought to herself. When she laid down in her bed and tried to sleep... she couldn't.
She realized just how much of her thought process that thing in the woods was taking up. She was genuinely surprised by her calm reaction. Usually, when you imagine yourself in this situation you would either scream, run away, or lunge straight at it, but yet she just stayed there like a statue.
God, where's your fight or flight response when you need it?

Eventually, she couldn't think anymore and she just drifted off to sleep. Unaware of how this night and her random craving for gummy worms changed her whole life forever...
