Y/N woke up at around noon, drenched in sweat. She didn't have a restful sleep. In fact, she was even more tired. She stayed in bed for a while, just tossing and turning, lost in thought. Until she heard a knock on the door.

"Hey, N/N, can I come in?"

"It's MAY I come in! Do you major in English or what?"

Said the H/C girl in a joking manner. The door to her room opened and she turned to look at her roommate.

Tatum was her age, slightly taller, with brown eyes and blonde hair. She had a very sunny aura to her and she always managed to make Y/N feel better and she needed that right now.

She walked over and sat on the foot of her bed.

"Soo, my friend Casey is having a party tomorrow at her place. Small gathering, only close friends..."

"I don't know if I'll be able to make it, Tate. I have a shit ton of work to do. Mrs. Smith is going to butcher me if I don't finish the presentation by next week."

"I know, but... maybe I can help you out and we can get all the work done by tomorrow. You can use a break. You've been working your ass off for the past 2 months. If we work together we can finish everything on time. I promise."

The blonde said with a smile on her face.
Y/N was seriously considering the offer. She could really use something to distract herself.

"Sure. Let's do it."

Tatum's face lit up. She smiled from ear to ear.

"I'm so glad. They are all very nice people and I'm 100% sure you'll get along."

She looked at Y/N, getting slightly closer to her.

"You know... Casey has a really cute brother..."

Y/N grimaced jokingly, took a pillow, and hit her roommate with it.

"Ouch, rude much?"
Said Tatum taking the pillow from her friend and hitting her with it.

The blonde girl got up and spoke:
"I'll be going to the store. We ran out of milk. Need anything?"

"No, I don't think so."

"Okay, I'll be back in a jiffy."
Tatum made her way downstairs and closed the door behind her. Y/N continued to lie in bed. She had absolutely no energy, but she really had to get up. After a long internal battle she finally got up and started getting dressed and getting ready for the day.

As she was brushing her teeth she remembered that thing from yesterday. She's never seen anything so... so alive yet so dead at the same time. She didn't know what to do in the aftermath, should she report it to the police? No, they'll never believe her- she thought. What is she supposed to do? Waltz over to the police station and say "Hey, as I was on my way to 7/11 to get junk food, I ran into a human-dog-Freddy-Cruger-looking creature that looked like it had spawned from the deepest, darkest pit of hell?" No, they'd take her for a crazy person, she thought.

She continued brushing, the thought of that thing never truly leaving her head, never getting her rest.

She thought that maybe a quick Google search would ease her mind, but she didn't find anything useful. Until she stumbled across a Reddit post on the
r/humanoidencounters subreddit. It was made 4 years ago. It was titled 'The creature that lives in the woods near my house'. It read:

Me and my husband moved into our house 6 months ago. The first few weeks were peaceful until feral animal attacks started happening in our neighborhood. At first, it was just pets and the local police department assured us that whatever animal was causing this would be terminated shortly and that it posed no real threat to us.
I told myself that it was nothing and that the police would handle it.
We have 2 dogs that we usually keep outside so we brought them inside to stay with us just in case.
One night they started to bark like crazy, they're very gentle and usually don't bark at anyone so this was very surprising. We called the police, but they showed up 2 hours later and whatever was there was now gone.
We have a patio door camera that faces our backyard and it captures some of the woods beyond our fence. My husband decided to take a look at all the cameras we have and on this particular one, we caught a disturbing image that I will insert at the end of my post.
When we brought the footage to the police they warned us not to tell anyone about it and that if we do we will be charged with breach of peace.
That creature continued to come to our house every single night between the hours of 12 and 2 AM. Shortly after the first encounter, the entire house started to have a foul stench and I have a reason to believe it was caused by the humanoid.
We are moving out of the house soon. If you live in rural Maine and you encounter this monstrosity, you should consider doing the same.

Below the post was attached a blurry photo of some camera footage. You had to squint your eyes to see it, but Y/N immediately recognized it. She felt chills running down her spine. She truly was in shock at the sight.

The post didn't seem to gather a lot of attention. It had 26 upvotes and only under 10 comments- none of which gave useful information.

Now she knew that she had a real problem on her hands. Why her? Why did she always have to draw the short end of the stick in life?
She just stared at her laptop screen for a good while, when her nose picked up a smell. A particular smell... a familiar scent...
