Y/N got into the passenger seat of Billy's car. He had a black Mercedes-Benz S-Class with leather seats. Definitely an expensive car. Especially for someone to own in their 20s.

Billy started the engine and they got onto the road. Y/N noticed the digital clock on the car screen showing

11:38 PM

In bold, red letters.

Billy opened the windows and fresh air got in. It was chilly and windy. Not something unusual for the Halloween season. The Thatchers lived in a pretty rural area so most of their surroundings included woods, deep and dark woods with a few houses here and there. Typical rich people neighborhood shit in short.

Y/N didn't know what to say, so she stayed silent. She wanted to say something, but she couldn't think of what, so she internally hoped Billy would break the ice and begin the conversation.

"I'm still surprised that you agreed to come with me."
Billy said not taking his eyes off the road.

"Why is that?

"Well, you don't know me, gods, you barely know my sister. But then again everyone knows her, so that doesn't count."
He continued:
"She's always been a social butterfly, she had so many friends that I don't know how she ever managed to keep up! I myself only had around 2 or 3 for my entire high school/college years."
Billy laughed.

"Well, for what it's worth, I think you're pretty chill. I'd like to get to know you more!."
Y/N smiled

"In what ways?"
Billy asked, smirking while slightly turning to look at her. Which left Y/N feeling uncomfortable and flustered, Billy noticed this and laughed:
"I'm just messing with you. I've got a weird sense of humor, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable."

"It's fine, don't worry about it."
Y/N said while shifting in her seat.

"So, what do you do for a living?"
Y/N knew the answer, but she felt like she should have a more detailed explanation.

"I work in law. I'm a corporate lawyer for my dad's firm. I work 40 hours a week and get paid around 130k a year. And that's without bonuses, of course."
Billy smirked at himself, happy to flex.

"That's impressive for a 25-year-old. Didn't you graduate just last year?"

Billy gave her a weird look.
"I'm 29. I'll be turning 30 in December..."

The whole atmosphere changed. Y/N couldn't comprehend that- she expected him to be just 4 years her senior, to only learn that he was almost a decade older than her...
Yes, she was mature, but she felt somewhat weird dating a much older guy. She never had that many boyfriends to know what she liked and what she didn't, but she assumed that since everything was within legal boundaries, it wasn't that bad.

"But don't worry about that. Age is just a number after all. And besides, we are both legal and consenting adults, are we not?"
Said Billy in an odd tone. Y/N couldn't quite tell if it was supposed to be a joke or not...

The car ride was awkward for a while until Y/N decided to speak up:
"Any idea where are we headed?"

"I don't know, where do you want to go?"

She thought about it for a few moments. Her mind was fuzzy and she couldn't come up with anything, so she stayed silent.

"I have an idea."
Billy said.

"I have a friend a few miles away that owes me a favor..."

Y/N turned to look at him, his gaze was somewhat strange, it's like he planned exactly what to say... like was reciting a text, a script."

"What favour..?"
Y/N asked, curious.

"Are you in the mood for some pot?"

That man was just full of surprises, wasn't he?

Y/N had tried weed before, but she knew better than to smoke marijuana with a stranger, so she tried to come up with an excuse:
"I'd prefer it if we save it for some other time... preferably when I'm not drunk."
She laughed, but Billy didn't

"What do you have to worry about? I'll drive you home in the morning. And besides, it's not like we can go back now, I'm 10 minutes away from his place."

"When I smoke and drink at the same time I almost always throw up. And that would be an unnecessary hassle when we can just reschedule."
She felt trapped with no idea what to do. It's like she had no say in the matter. She wondered why she even accepted his offer in the first place. She gave him the benefit of the doubt, but after all, he was still a stranger.

"But, isn't that illegal?"
Asked Y/N.

"Nah, the state voted in favor of legalizing all types of cannabis in 2015/2016. Retail purchase and consumption are not against state or municipal law."
Billy said.

"But this is not a retail purchase, is it?

Billy didn't reply but added:
"Anything under 2.5oz is completely legal. You don't have to worry about that."

The girl still didn't feel comfortable. She wanted to jump out of the car right then and there. But what choice did she have? It was too late now. She did all of this to herself. No more dating and no more getting into strangers' cars. No matter how rich or attractive they are. Stranger danger is something drilled into every child's mind since birth, but no one ever listens...

She snapped back to reality after Billy stopped the car in front of an apartment complex. It looked old and scary. It resembled an abandoned hospital or a haunted mansion more than an apartment complex.

The clock now showed:

12:27 AM

In those same goddamned red letters.

Y/N had never felt so small In her life. She just wanted to be home, she wanted to be anywhere but here... more than anything. She wanted to relax and just go with the flow, but she and Billy had barely exchanged a few words, and now she had to do drugs with him... what a great evening this was turning out to be...
