17- Always

Sage POV
My head hurt as I tried to open my eyes. At first glance, I couldn't see anything, but after a few seconds, my eyes finally focused. I was lying in my bed.

I tried to sit up but I could barely do it. Every part of my body ached.

"Oh, finally, you're awake." I heard someone say. I slowly turned my face towards the sound to see it was Clint who said this.

"Uhh... What happened." I asked him.

"You and Newt came all bruised up and hurt back from the maze. I think you know what happened."

Oh yeah... Newt...Wait where is he?

"Where is he? Is he okay?" I said while I tried to stand up to search for him, but Clint quickly stopped me.

"You need to rest. He's okay, he's in the med room, resting, as should you." He made me sit back down.

"How long was I out?"

"Not long, it all happened 2 days ago, when you came back you just collapsed from exhaustion." He stood up, ready to leave. "I'll have Frypan make you some food since you missed breakfast." With that, he left.

It didn't take long for Frypan to come to my room with breakfast. "How are you feeling Sage?"

"Fine, How is Newt?"

"He is okay, here have some breakfast." He handed me the tray with food. "What even happened out there?"

Oh, so he didn't tell them?

"Newt didn't tell you anything?"

"No, he doesn't want to talk to anyone except for Alby, but even Ably said he doesn't believe the story he is telling him."

I started eating my food and I didn't want to tell everyone what had actually happened. It wasn't my place to tell.

"I'll let you finish your food." He walked to the door. "Oh, and Alby wants to speak to you." And he left.

Someone knocked on my door. "May I come in?"

It was Minho.

"Hi, Alby told me to come and get you. How are you?"

"Can you all stop asking me how I am when you should be asking N- never mind tell him I'm coming."

"Uhh, okay." He closed the door behind him.

I got up, changed my clothes finally, and went outside.

I quickly spotted Alby next to Winston and I approached them. Winston excused himself to give us some privacy and then we started talking.

"Sage, can you tell me what happened? Newt says that you two just bumped into each other and fell, but I doubt that that would make you pass out for two days and break his leg."

I didn't want to say anything.

"Please, Sage."

"I'm sorry, but It's not for me to tell. Could I talk to him first?"

"I understand, but you also have to understand he doesn't want to talk to another right now. I'll bring you to him, but afterward, you're telling me the whole story."

That could work I guess. "Okay."

And we went, into the homestead and up the stairs where he left me to go alone.

I waited for Alby to leave and then I slowly opened the door.

"Leave me alone!" he shouted and threw something at me. But when he saw it was me walking through the door he broke.

"I'm sorry, I didn't- I- I'm so sorry..."

"No, you don't have to apologize." I went closer to him.

"I- I just." He started crying and I couldn't resist the urge to hug him and comfort him anymore.

"It's okay, everything is okay"

"No, nothing is okay. I feel like shit and now that my bloody plan failed I feel even worse." He sobbed harder. "I'm sorry." he pulled away.

"You have nothing to be sorry for. It's alright to cry you know."

"I- I..."

"Alby wants to know the truth. Do you want me to tell him?"

He stayed silent.

"You don't have to tell anyone else."

"I'll tell him, but can you be there with me when I do?"

"Of course, you're not alone." I sat down next to him on the bed. "How's the leg doing?"

"Broken, Clint says I'll probably have a limp and he made Gally make this stupid crutches for me."
I looked at the wooden crutches in the corner.

"At least you'll be able to walk."

"I guess."

There were a few seconds of silence until I asked. "Why did you do it?"

"I just felt it would be easier for everyone. All the deaths and everything, I just thought it would be for the best."

"Don't you feel sorry for anything? If you ever, ever think that way, please come to me, to anyone. Do you want a hug?" Saying that made him immediately hug me.

"Thank you, Sage."

"I'm here for you, always."
