Her eyes opened wide as if for the first time, but she couldn't see. Sitting up, her back ached as the cage which held her rattled from beneath her. Managing to balance herself up, she could only scream, but nothing came out.
She stumbled, falling down. Dizzy, she couldn't tell if the sheen of moisture coating her skin was sweat or water, but whatever it was made her shiver.
"What the..." she whispered after coughing up water from her lungs. She waved her hands in front of her face, unable to see if it was blind or she was in the dark. "Hello?!"
Her voice echoing, the girl waited in hopes of a response. Nothing.
A sudden sensation of ascending upwards caused her to cling onto the gaps in the cage she sat upon, lowering her head to brace for impact as she hollered her throat raw.
Flashes of light gave her the privilege of seeing that below her was nothing but a void as she passed bright white lights one after the other. She looked up, there had to be an end to whatever was happening, but it looked like she was going to hit a dead end.
A red light met her at the top, and she laid on her back, her chest heaving and she could only hear her own hyperventilating as it all went quiet.
The light switched to a neon green with an awful sound to follow, and suddenly, she was closing her eyes to shield them from the harsh sunlight which found her.
She heard gasps and chattering above her, but she was too afraid to look. A clang shook the cage as someone heavy jumped in, forcing her to look straight at him.
"What do we have here?" the boy said, and she shuffled herself away into the closest corner.
"Get the hell away from me!" she hissed, and the audience peering down at her, enjoying the show, jeered at her attack. "Who the hell are you?!"
"Relax," the boy, tanned with blond hair cautioned as he approached her, and she kicked her legs towards him.
The girl screamed which made he, and all the other boys cry out and wince. "I said get away from me!"
Standing herself up, she pushed him away, but he responded by grabbing her, throwing her up and out of the box.
She looked up, a dozen boys staring down at her as if they had never seen a girl before in their life.
The mixture of reactions she was receiving from them all caused her stomach to twist into a knot, and she could only just hear what they were saying.
"We got a girl!"
"Why would they send us a girl?"
Whimpering in fear of what they were going to do to her, she had heard enough. She crawled through a gap between them, stumbling over as she lifted herself to a run.
Her sudden need to escape arose some entertained voices behind her, but she kept going.
"The girl can run!"
"Looks like a Runner!"
"Somebody stop her!" a British accent roared, and when she looked back, the girl saw that she was being chased.
Her feet were near faltering as she dodged every rock and pothole in the grass. She hadn't any idea where she was going, that was when she noticed the massive stone walls before her. Turning her head, she realised they were all around her, minus a gap in the middle.
Taking a sharp left, she darted for the forest, as she thought it would be the smartest place to hide until she figured out wherever she was, or what she was going to do.
