Fire Bird

Chapter 3

When in the path of a predator, the prey had two options. Run or fight. It is supposed to be instinctual and dependent on the best survival outcome. For Akiya, she'd never experienced the pure fear of what it means to be in the sight of death. She was sheltered, protected, and hidden away from the world in hopes she would never face the hardships Omega endured.

But here she was, half-naked in an abandoned and bare house with a dangerous alpha in front of her. He moved fast, lunging towards her, making her scream as she tried to scramble off the bed. He snatched her waist, but the quick moment made him groan and clutch his side in pain. His injury must have caught up with him as Dabi's large frame lay across her, trapping her under his heavy weight.

Akiya lay very still, trying her best not to panic about being crushed. It was clear he was very weak, having walked miles with possible broken ribs and internal bleeding. But she was grateful; his current state saved her a few minutes of being assaulted by the supervillain.

"I'll need to be healed first," he murmured against her skin, giving her goosebumps. "Then I'll really show you." The words were said breathlessly.

She held her breath as he fell back asleep, slumping on her. If she could just manage to get out from under him, she could make a run for it into town. Wiggling away from him, she managed to get his legs off of her. Scooting off the bed, she fell right onto the floor. The thump wasn't loud enough to wake the sleeping alpha, and she took this as a sign to escape.

Staring back at the man, Akiya quietly stepped backwards until she was out of the door, her eyes never leaving his in case he woke up. All rational thoughts ran out of her brain as she solely focused on survival. With her heart racing out of her chest, she quickly rushed to the front door, opening and taking off. She ran down the gravel dirt road, ignoring the pain on her bare feet. This road must lead to the city, and she prayed it was only a few miles. All she could think about was putting as much distance between her and Dabi as possible and, hopefully, finding a pro or police officer.

After running for 15 minutes, Akiya slowed and winced as she stepped on a rock. Up ahead, she saw that the road began to get bigger and there was a four-way stop. She looked in both directions, wondering which way would lead her to town. She had no idea where she was, but she was thankful it was morning and she had plenty of daylight to figure it out.

Suddenly, the sound of a car could be heard in the distance, and a little sliver of hope sparked within her. This could be her ticket to freedom!

Akiya waved the vehicle down, a huge smile spreading across her face in excitement. But as the beat-up car grew near, something didn't feel right. There were two large males in the front, and they seemed to share the same excitement with each other upon seeing her. What if they're alphas, the small voice in the back of her head cried. She felt unsure and she put her hand down and began walking away quickly. Maybe they'll just drive past her...

The screeching of brakes along with the crackling of the gravel sounded behind her and she held her breath.

"Hey sweetheart, are you lost?" A voice boomed, and she looked to see a huge burly man, his eyes filling with hunger as he stared at her.

Clearing her throat, Akiya put on a brave face. "I'm sorry, I thought you were my friends. They're coming to get me any minute," she lied, something her mother always taught her to do.

The other man raked his eyes up and down her body and she clutched herself tightly, hoping they wouldn't smell her from there. "You look a little beat up, you sure we can't drive you somewhere?"
