The whole great hall watched in anticipation as Professor McGonagall paraded the first years down the center isle. They looked just as nervous as I probably did only moments before, although some looked curious. I could spot Ron in the crowd, mostly due to his hair which was easy to spot from great distances.
I wasn't keeping track of the names being called up, or what houses they had been sorted into. However a few names did stick out. Like Susan bones who was now a Hufflepuff.
I clapped for every one of them, happy for them to get to experience such a momentous occasion. "Draco Malfoy!" McGonagall called out, causing me to stop mid clap. There was a slight chance that it wasn't him, but there was no denying it as I saw the pale blonde hair. It was so blonde it was almost white really, at least in certain tricks of the light.
It hadn't even occurred to me that he was the same age as Harry. Our eyes made contact as he sat upon the stool, and the faintest ghost of a smile crinkled in the corners of his mouth. However it turned back into a neutral expression a few seconds later, and the hat was placed on his head.
"SLYTHERIN!" It bellowed out, barely touching his head and he smiled before walking over to the table of his new house. A trace of arrogance in his step. I felt my heart crack slightly at the thought of it, taking after his parents. But I also knew and have experienced first hand that he could never stoop that low. Didn't have it in him to really take after the dark side of his family.
Not long after his sorting was Harry called up and the whole hall went quiet. My brother sat on the stool with terror on his face, and I held my breath as the hat went on his head. A hand slipped into mine and I smiled at Katie which she returned before we both looked back at the front.
Unlike with Draco, the hat took a few minutes deciding where Harry fit best, but a look of relief crept on his face when it called out "GRYFFINDOR!" Everyone at our table cheered happy to have the chosen on in our house.
The twins began shouting above the crowd "WE GOT THE POTTERS! WE GOT THE POTTERS!" over and over again until Dumbledore asked for silences and began his speech. After everyone ate we all went back to the common room to retire for the night.

I woke up before everyone in my dorm, making use of the empty showers where I got ready for the day. After putting my robes on I went down to the great hall for breakfast. There wasn't many people there which I didn't mind as I sat at my table. My eyes scanned the selection of breakfast foods when a green apple filled my sight.Looking up I saw the boy that saved me long ago, keeping me from the brink of death when he'd bring me food. Nobody payed us any mind, which is why he felt comfortable approaching me, since nobody was here to witness it.
"Thank you," I replied taking the apple from him, he stood there for a few seconds. As if trying to figure out what to say.
"Nobody can find out I said this, but I'm glad Dobby got you out. I'm thankful that nothing bad happened after you escaped," he states before rushing to the Slytherin table before anyone could see us talking. I sat there stunned for a few seconds before eating the apple.
Having him say that really did mean alot, and I'm glad that despite living with death eaters he didn't completely believe in their ideologies. Given the fact that had they found out what he'd done for me, they'd most likely disown him. Death eaters hated anyone who isn't a pure blood. Which I fell into the half-blood category.
Uncle Sirius was disowned by his family as he didn't have the same beliefs as them, and he was sorted into Gryffindor. Many of the older pure blood families like to keep their family within the same houses. Alot of their methods were completely unorthodox really.
Then there's the stereotype that all bad witches and wizards get sorted into Slytherin, which is not true. There are bad people in the world where ever you go. Even in the muggle world. There's goodness and badness in everyone, a concept that Sirius taught me the other week. It's how you choose to use it that defines us.
I was deep in thought, whilst eating the apple. Trying to process what just happened. My friends found me not long after, chowing down on some bacon. Angelina didn't look happy to be sitting with me, but she sat down beside Fred, who was on my left.
"I keep forgetting that you're an early riser," Fred states ruffling my hair before placing food on his plate as George handed me a pitcher of apple juice, which I happily poured into my cup.
"And I forgot that you guys are never on time for anything," I joked earning shocked looks from them.
"Um excuse us," Fred starts placing a hand on his chest.
"But we are always on time for class," George finished the sentence. It was always amusing how they managed to do that, it just happened too. There is no way they could plan their responses to things.
"Yeah at least some of the time," Lee chimed in earning laughs from everyone. Well apart from Angelina who hadn't said a word since sitting down.
Professor McGonagall was handing out every ones timetables, saying that our year had potions first class with the Ravenclaws. Everyone around me all let out a groan, shaking their heads.
They either hated potions or the teacher who taught it. Either way I'm sure I'd find out why they reacted the way they did. My grandfather was a very stilled potion master, he even invented a hair care potion.
I'm not saying I'd be as good as he had been, but I guess the only way to know was attending the class. Who knows maybe I'll like it.....
