"Knock Knock" Anissa says softly as she peeks her head into the room of the beautiful ebony mystery patient. "I come bearing gifts" she gestures to the cups in the holders in hand. The patient sitting in the hospital bed looks her up and down - half confused and half offended at the familiarity this stranger has employed in greeting her. Anissa, reading the room, puts both hands up and tries to break the ice.
"I know, I know. You like 'who is this strange woman talking to me like we're besties'. I'm sorry hun. To be honest, I was relieved when my former colleague called me this morning informing me that you had come to. Now, do you know who you are? Where you are? How you got here?" Anissa offers the patient one of the coffees, to which she just looks in disbelief.
"My name is Ryan. That's just about all I can remember."
Anissa responds "Girl, I get it"
"Ryan" the patient interrupts
"Look, Ryan, I get it. You're in a strange place with a strange woman offering you a drink. It seems kind of suspicious however, full disclosure. I found you in a ditch last while I was in the park on my nightly jog."
"You saved me?...Thanks but, still don't take covered drinks from strangers" Ryan says.
Anissa offers her hand. "I'm Anissa Pierce. I'm a clinical doctor and Principal at Freeland High. You're in Freeland and now we are no longer stangers"
Ryan reluctantly accepts Anissa's handshake.
Anissa continues, "Since you have no memory of a place to go, you can come stay with me for the time being. You know, while we figure things out. You're being discharged; with no insurance, they not about to let you stay here for free. I know it's a bit of a gamble on your part, but I promise you, I mean you no ill intent."
Ryan tilts her head and concedes "I guess I don't have much of a choice, do I?"
As Ryan finishes donning the same bloody; torn clothes from the previous week, she notices a commotion outside her hospital room. Peeking out of her door she sees Anissa seemingly at war with no less than 50 grown man - clad in all black and blonde hair. Her eyes grow wide as Anissa claps and 10 of the assailants fly into a wall.
Before Ryan has the opportunity to process what she's just witnessed, she feels a clamy hand aggressively latch on to her forearm attempting to abduct her. Without her conscious consent, she grabs the would be assaulter and takes him with an ease that can only be explained by muscle memory. She's done this before and her body knows it. Absent thought and with wreckless abandon, she joins the fray.
Mere moments later, with all aggressors subdued Ryan looks at Anissa and with conviction demands an answer "What the hell was that? Are you superwoman?"
"What the hell was that? I thought Batwoman was in Gotham?" Anissa retorts.
Both ladies, hyped up on the emotion of the moment, uncontrollably burst into laughter. Anissa confesses "I guess I left something off in my introduction but, we can't talk here. Let's debrief at my loft." Both heroines nod in agreement and leave the hospital.
