Paet 10 - The Team

Jax inhales quietly as he is awakened by the sun peeking through his curtains. With one eye open, he peeks to see if she's still here. As she lays on his bare chest, she breathes in and out

"I can feel you looking at me, Jeff."

He smiles and retorts "I am now the luckiest man in all of space and time"

"Mhmm sure" she says as she notices his phone vibrating, indicating a message. "Do you need to get that?"

"No no, it's Gideon. After the legends were assassinated, I somehow became the new owner of the waverider. I a(sked her to run the prints we found yesterday as a backup to Kuasa's contact. No doubt Gideon found something, I can read the report after breakfast, " Jax says with a smirk.

"Oh no, stallion, I'm going to freshen up. You can start on breakfast." Amyia says as she leaves the bed and heads to the bathroom.

"What?" Jax says playfully."That was my ONLY intention" he adds as he watches her walk to the bathroom in his 2006 Calvin Ellis "Anything's Possible" campaign shirt, bitting his bottom lip.

"To the kitchen pyro" Amaya giggles without turning around.

"Wrong universe, literally" Jax says getting up; heading toward the kitchen as Amaya shuts the bathroom door.

Turning the corner into the kitchen Jax opens his phone to read Gideon's message with one hand and retrieves the packet of bacon and carton of eggs from the refrigerator with the other. While placing the breakfast food items on the counter he screams "What?!?!?" In utter disgust, anger and confusion. "Amaya!!" He belts down the hallway as she's already rushing up the corridor

"Jeff, we gotta go. Kuasa has the results."

"Wait, Gideon just gave me some information we need to discuss before rushing out," Jax interrupts.

"No, whatever it is, it has to wait. Let's go!"

"Ok" Jax mutters and texts "Send the team to my location" to Gideon as they rush out the door.

Arriving to the last place Mari was seen we meet Kuasa with a tear stained face. Amaya instinctively hugs her granddaughter as Jax uncharacteristically hangs back, opting out of a formal greeting.

"Grandmother" Kuasa begins "My contact has uncovered the identity of the owner of the fingerprints. Jax, it's a long term enemy of ours, John Diggle Jr.. He's back Jax and he killed Mari to make a statement"

Jax responds to a text and grabs Amaya's arm placing his body between the mother and grandmother. "Do you know who else helped him?" Jax inquires

"No" Kuasa retorts with folded arms and deliberate stare.

"Why, Kuasa why?" Amaya asks thru painful tears "She was your sister!"

"Grandmother, what are you saying?" Kuasa's eyes bounce between Jax and Amaya, "Surley you don't think..."

"Cut the bull Kuasa. I had Gideon run the prints, and she came back with video from the camera on the lamppost. We know you killed Mari!"

"Well, the broad had it coming..." Kuasa says coldly. "You know, I never got over that little  'adventure' in Zambesi. All these black heros and the so-called legends had to colonize Africa all over again. To make matters worse, Mari sent me in her clothes (as ill-fitting as they were) and nobody batted an eye! It was as if we were interchangeable to the great white hopes. Even you Grandmother, you had to steal a totem from our own home to give it to Jax in order for him to be the Fire Elemental, and everyone was cool with it...well not me. I regained my water totem and killed every last one of those peckerwoods. My dear sister however, could not handle it. She tried to get me to repent for my deeds, as if I was the one in error. It was not me it was THEM.  And here's where you're wrong Jefferson Jackson. I didn't kill Mari, I simply incapacitated her while John ran her thru with a sword. It's time for justice and if you won't serve it, I'll mete it out with the League of Assassins and Deathstroke."

Overcome with furor, Amaya activates the lion spirit in her totem. While attempting to lunge at Kuasa, Jax incinerates and arrow aimed directly at her eyes.

"Well lookie here. Such a touching family moment" John Diggle Jr.(Deathstroke) taunts from a rooftop as he looks on with his sister Sara Diggle (Ravenger), Connor Hawke and Matthew Bland (The Red Lion). "Now that the cat's out of the bag, Oshun come join us. There's nothing else for you here."

"The hell it isnt" Amaya yells as she activates the falcon spirit on her totem and Jax fires up.

"So, you choose death, it seems." Deathstroke comments as he prepares to attack when suddenly 3 heroes appear. Not willing to get into a fight he's not prepared for, he opts to escape.

Jax looks at his compadres "Vic, Mal; Karen. Thanks for coming." He then puts his arm around a visibly hurt Amaya, "Let's debrief and recoup"

Amaya nods in agreement and they head to the waverider.
