Today, I was running a bit late for work because there was an accident on the road, causing a delay.

I rushed as fast as I could to get to work because I knew Lisa would be furious. She had to pick up her son from daycare.

I entered the shop without looking to see if anyone else was inside.

"Lisa, I'm so sorry; there was an accident, and we got stuck in traffic," I stammered, trying to calm her with my softest tone and a smile.

Lisa looked at me with wide eyes, gesturing towards someone behind me.

When I turned around, I saw Mrs Gates, our boss the founder of The Gates, who rarely visited the pet shop.

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Gates," I greeted her and quickly went to put my bag away.

I overheard Lisa explaining that she had to leave, and I heard the doorbell ring as she left.

"You're late," Mrs Gates said with a dry and unforgiving tone.

"Yes, there was an accident, and traffic was jammed," I tried to explain with a gentler voice.

"This can't happen anymore," she replied.

"Please, tell your mom that you need to decide whether you're going to school or work.

You can't give 100% to both. I like my employees to give 100% to their work.

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I need this job so bad , it helps me cover my school fees and expenses, especially the bus.

My eyes welled up with tears.

Mrs Gates had walked away, leaving me with a big decision to make.
