personality. to sum it up in a few words, delphine is clumsy, a little awkward, but has a good heart. at a first glance, she's always messing something up, breaking one thing or another. she probably says the word sorry about a hundred times a day, but still manages to draw people in with her charisma, almost. when meeting strangers, she used to be one of the most welcoming people in the world, but after the world turned their back on her, she's become more sensitive, observant, and hostile to people she first meets. when she feels you're trustworthy enough, her attitude immediately changes. the smile that used to always adorn her face appears, and she becomesthe sweet 'dare' that everyone used to know. despite her clumsiness and apparent lack when it comes to taking care of things, delphine is actually quite adept at being a leader and knowing what to do to survive. when the time comes she's one of the most serious and focused people in the area, but her skills are often underestimated and most of the time this side of her is never shown. for now, she's happy with being seen as the clumsy, slightly underwhelming one, since it gives her less burden. when it comes to love, she's probably as inexperienced as everyone else. delphine ran away earlier than most, having the ability to change her appearance temporarily giving her a slight advantage when it came to blending in. she's lived with many different groups of people, learnt the way various people love, but hasn't gotten a true chance to experience it. so, as a romantic partner or interest, delphine will, more often than not, overthink every little action her partner does. she tends to get self-conscious and puts a lot of time in her relationships, whether platonic or romantic. however, she finds it harder and harder to trust new people and even the people she considers her closest friends.

backstory. she wasn't always outcasted as different. when she was a child, delphine was loved, more than anything - for having a beautiful smile and being a sweet kid. as the youngest of four kids, she was adored by her older siblings and her parents as well as her surrounding village. her parents were farmers, not poor, made more than enough to provide and help the homeless on the street. they were labelled as saints, and were well reknowned people for being kind. her childhood was a plethora of flouncy dresses, hand feeding baby cows and sheep, riding horses and lying in the grass with the resident border collies. the fairytale was quickly shattered due to a freak storm that killed all their animals and crop. suddenly, the cunningham family were shunned, and were never given the treatment they gave everyone else. her father started to sought out the comfort of alcohol, and quickly became an addict. then, the gambling started, and he started to sell whatever they had. gold, jewellery, chairs, anything that would help him fuel his addiction. the family became desperate for money, and her two eldest brothers ended up taking up jobs to support the family. when delphine was thirteen, tragedy struck for the newly turned teen. on her birthday which had to be secretly celebrated with her only sister, delphine looked in the mirror, thinking of all the things she wanted to change. her chapped lips, slightly crooked nose, a mole there, and almost like magic, they did. they changed. delphine was stunned- she'd only heard fairytales of people being able to do this, and that they weren't... good, people. her mother and father caught her, and they both produced two very different reactions. her mother was distraught, while her father's eyes lit up like he had hit a jackpot. grisha blood was worth a lot of money, which meant he could sell delphine's life in exchange for more money to fuel his two raging addictions. her father wasn't the person he was, and the looking his eyes is something that delphine still remembers to this day. that night, after her mother pleaded for her father to do what he wanted to do in the morning, she gave delphine a small sack with some food, water and medicine and told her to run as far as she could. the love of her daughter was chosen over the fear of wrath from her husband or her country's beliefs, and that was the last day 13 year old delphine would see her family for a long time. delphine started her journey as a young kid, only knowing that her life was in danger and she had a weird ability to change how she looked. she changed little things about herself so people wouldn't recognise her, and spend the next few years of her life going from town to town, and making her way to the border of novyi zem. during her time as a wanted fugitive, she met a guy in one of the towns. typical, a young girl falling for a slightly older guy who flashed a smile and bought her food. they... courted, at best, until she found out he was a soldier who wanted to kill her. turns out, she didn't know what love was.

other. one delphine is unaware her brother became a soldier after she left. the reasons were solely for money, but that's still gotta hurt, right? two as a kid she used to always explore the nearby mountains with her father, before he went a bit crazy, so is well equipped with what berries to eat and which ones make a great poison. three she's horrendous at cooking, but great at collecting the ingredients. she used to stand on a step-stool watching her mother and eldest brother cook together. four her tailoring abilities are advanced for someone with no training, but of course, it's not like she's amazing. she can only do small temporary things, like change the colour of her hair our a few mole placements. five she's got a bit of a green thumb, and when she find a safe place, wants to have a small terrace garden. six shes broken more cups than she's owned.
