Starflight almost froze again, thinking back to the arena, where Scarlet had been smiling deviously on her throne. He ducked at the last second, feeling the wind go whoosh as she sailed above him...right into Peril.
There was a moment of silence, and then the screaming started. It sounded like Scarlet was trying to let all her rage out at once. Starflight figured Peril would shove Scarlet off of her as soon as she realized what she had done, but she instead dug her claws into Scarlet and hung on with all her might. This made Scarlet scream even louder, further intensifying the thrashing Scarlet did and waft the sickening smell of burning dragon flesh and scales toward Starflight.
Scarlet tried one last rage frenzy at Glory. "You...you did this to me, you despicable Rainwing," Scarlet said in between screams of fury and pain. She pointed to her half-melted face. It looked as if the scales couldn't decide between melting or burning. They were not her usual red though.
Glory vanished. A few seconds later, black goo splattered all over Scarlet's back and tail. She let out another agonized wail and tried to wipe the goo away, but instead got it all over her body. She disintegrated, very slowly, but finally, she turned into ash. Peril blew on the pile, and the ash floated away into the wind.
Starflight realized that he was digging his claws into the stone floor. He unhooked them and stared at Peril. I didn't think she would do that, hanging onto her queen and burning her to death. Tsunami stared daggers at Peril. What kind of dragon murders their queen? This will surely prove how untrustworthy she is!
Peril dusted off her claws and sighed. "Glad that she's gone. I wonder who will be queen next." She said it like she was going for a stroll. Everyone goggled at her. "You just killed your queen...and you're brushing it off like it's nothing?" Tsunami cried. She whirled around to face the dragonets. "This proves how untrustworthy she is! Starflight, back me up here!"
Starflight flinched. "Well, I can see both sides. On one talon, Peril did kill her queen, which she was supposed to be loyal to, but on the other talon, didn't she kill Scarlet to prove to us that we can trust her?" Tsunami growled again and stormed off into the cave.
"I guess that could be one reaction to it" Starflight mused. Glory stopped him in his tracks. He froze again.
"Uh," Starflight stuttered. "Anything you need?"
SHE KNOWS!!! Starflight was panicking inside. WHAT IF SHE TELLS EVERYONE??? AH!!! Glory yawned.
"Get me some food, will ya? It's time for my nap." Starflight sighed inwardly and went down to catch something for Glory. He finally caught a pair of cows and was beginning to wing back when he heard a rustle of wings.
He whirled around to find...Phew. It was just Peril. Wait a second. Peril...in the forest...PFOOOOOM!!! The surrounding trees burst into flames instantly. "ACK!!! I'm so sorry, trees!" She turned to face Starflight. "I just wanted to say thanks for saving me. Que-I mean, Scarlet had abused me for years, and I didn't even notice until she tried to kill me." Tears were running down her snout (or trying to at least, they kept evaporating when they came out,) and her voice hitched a bit.
Starflight stiffened a bit. If she finds out... "Yeah, uh, no problem. Just the ordinary work of a dragonet of destiny." Peril laughed. "Wow, humor. I didn't know you had that," she teased.
Starflight ruffled his wings. "Hey, I can be entertaining sometimes! It's just that I prefer scrolls over dragons, is all." Peril shrugged and looked at the cows.
"You need help with those?" Starflight shook his head.
"Glory wants one, and I figured Clay would want one too." Peril gassped dramatically. "Moons of Prryhia! Do you have COMPASSION? WOW!" Starflight sighed. There was no way Peril could ever understand what he'd been through. "Hey, while we're still on the subject of Clay...erm...do you...like him?"
Peril almost dropped out of the sky. "What?" she spluttered. "Uh, maybe? I mean, I may have a slight crush on him, but..." Starflight sighed again. "It's pretty obvious. You keep sneaking glances at him, and sidle towards him whenever you're near."
Peril sighed. "OK, FINE. Your impeccable logic has led me to reveal that I like Clay." Starflight grinned. "Aha! I have cleverly deduced that you like Clay! Wow! I'm a genius, aren't I?" Peril laughed. "AHA! I DO TOO have humor, and you just proved it!"
And they got all the way back to the cave without realizing that someone was watching them.
