As they flew above the Diamond Spray River from their cave, the dragonets argued about the best kingdom in Pyrrhia. Tsunami argued that the Kingdom of the Sea was best because there were wide-open oceans to explore, plus seafood. They could all say that the Kingdon of Sand was horrid, deserts, the sun beating down on you, and worst of all, the heat. The three battling sisters dividing the kingdom didn't help either.
Glory couldn't say anything about the Rainforest Kingdom, and everyone thought that Rainwings were useless and lazy, so no one explored the dangerous forests in southern Pyrrhia. But the dragonets had seen what Glory had done to Scarlet. Starflight had a suspicion that the Rainwings were hiding something.
Clay argued that since the Mud Kingdom was so close to the border with many other tribes, they had more opportunities for trade and education. Starflight saw it as a point of conflict more than a point of learning, as the Diamond Spray River separated the Mud Kingdom from the Sky Kingdom, causing tension over the usage of water and transport.
Starflight couldn't say anything to represent his tribe because no one knew where the mysterious Nightwings presided. Legends said that the black dragons once lived on a southern peninsula but fled due to someone named Darkstalker. He had animus powers and threatened the Nightwing hierarchy by attempting to kill the queen and rule the tribe and, per the scroll that Starflight had read the entire continent. It had given him nightmares for weeks.
No one said anything about the Ice Kingdom, but it was basically the same as the Sand Kingdom other than the climate. It was deadly and full of menacing creatures that could and would kill hapless dragons who wandered upon them.
Peril didn't speak up about the Sky Kingdom. Probably because of her encounter with Scarlet. She doesn't want to remember anything about her tribe. Poor Peril...She must be so torn to kill her own queen to save us...to save Clay. He had a sudden thought. What if Peril just killed Scarlet to save Clay? What if she forced him to run away with her? What if she killed them too? No, Starflight reassured himself. Clay would never leave us, even for love. We're his friends, and nothing would ever change that.
Starflight felt a rush of gratitude toward his friends. Sunny, the always-peppy, optimistic, think-of-it-from-their-side kind of dragon.
Tsunami, brave and fierce, passionate, and strong, but also brash and a kind of dragon who would slice first, ask later.
Clay, poor, blissful, kind, compassionate Clay, whose mind was almost always on food.
And Glory. Glory was different. She had some qualities like Tsunami, although maybe it was just that Glory was irritable. She definitely was surprising, though, as the dragonets learned from the arena fight.
And then there was him. Starflight. The walking bookshelf who couldn't even handle himself against a scavenger. Who was afraid to confess to Sunny because of his doubts. Who was nervous and twitchy and scared. He realized something then. All of his friends were loyal to the group. Tsunami, Clay, and Glory would never back down from a fight, and even Sunny, who didn't have her signature Sandwing tail barb wouldn't flee. He wasn't sure he would, though. He wasn't sure he would fight. He had already proven his fighting skills were no use, so what use was he? He'd just have to wait for his moment.
