I woke up in my new house, I looked out the window and it was still dark. Now, I had a choice I could stay home with my abusive parents or I could go to school and see if it was possible to make any friends.
There's a little bit I should probably explain. My name is Scarlet, most people call me Scar which kinda makes sense because I'm covered in scars. No, not necessarily from self harm although I have done that quite a few times. I was born on Halloween, I am 15 years old and living in a town called Logberg. Except, the town is sorta split into two, there is sort of a subdivision where all the rich kids live and there are specific schools for these kids and that is where I'm going. The subdivision or whatever you wanna call it, has it's own little town hall and they have 3 people that work in the real town hall but they are pretty self sufficient a Doctor that will make house calls, a vet, stores its really cute. There are no buses because there is barely any walking distance. The farthest home from the school is 2 miles away and there is a trail that takes you about 20 minutes to get to school. So, there are probably going to be quite a few school closing, but I don't know exactly how they do things here. Everyone here has lived here since they were in diapers, new people are rare.
I got up and walked into the bathroom I brushed my teeth. I walked back into my bed room and changed into ripped purple skinny jeans, a blue tank top and a purple jacket over it. I walked back into the bathroom, took my hair out of the braids it was in and I spread out the waves making them even. I put on a slight layer of foundation just to smooth out my skin, then I put on some eyeliner on my waterlines and on top of my lid making my eyes pop. I turned off the light and walked out grabbing my backpack and an apple to eat on the walk to school. Something I should probably mention about my hair, it's purple and blue. I dye my hair about once every 3 weeks depending on how much I like the color.
I walked out the door checking to make sure it was locked. Looking up at the stormy looking sky and saw a flash of lightning. I smiled and took a bite of my apple, I started to walk towards the school. after a couple minutes of walking I finished my apple and I threw my core out into a bush. I adjusted my backpack and kept walking. After another minute or so the school came into view.
I walked in and everyone stared at me, you know the movies where the girl walks into the dance and everyone stops and stares to see how beautiful she is? Yeah, it was like that except they didn't think I was beautiful they thought I was weird that I didn't deserve to be there but hey, jokes on them I didn't choose to be here and I didn't care what they thought about me. I'm gonna explain this weird ass schedule and school set up to you. So there is the high-school, about two floors each made up of 10 hallways, plus a gym and music wing. In the beginning of the day you have 30 minutes of passing time, so we get to the school at or before 7:30 then we actually start school at 8:00. So you have half an hour to wander the halls talk to teachers or friends, or finish any homework that you didn't do the night before. Then you have four 80 minute classes, a 40 minute lunch, and a 40 minute study hall at the end of the day, but it's pretty much a free period, plus you have your 5 minute passing time in between classes. I walked into the corner of the lunch room laughing when I saw that the stage was in the cafeteria. I picked up my i-pod that I had set on the stage and put in my headphones, the song I'm not a Vampire by falling in reverse was on. I walked into the main office and knocked on the desk because no one was there. I took out one headphone.
"Hello?" I heard fumbling and a thud. I raised my eyebrows and a girl that looked like she was high as hell came out from the back.
"Hello? Hi, I don't know you are you the new kid?" I giggled, this chick was most likely high and still peppy.
"Yes, I am the new kid, I'm Scarlet, just call me Scar." She nodded.
"Okay, Scar, here is your class schedule, go, go, go make friends." I tried hard not to start laughing. I walked out of the office and into the hallway, there were kids that were staring at me or they were walking down the hall just doing whatever. I tried to see if anyone had anything different about them, and as far as I could tell there wasn't anyone, but I might be lying it is my first day and like, my first hour. I walked into my first class which was Geometry. I sat down with my music blasting in my ears as the teacher kept putting papers on my desk. She signaled for me to take out my headphones so I did.
"How do you learn? I have kids where I teach them step by step then there are others that use laptops then I have kids that just do everything on there own and use a mix of all of it."
"I use a mix," She nodded understanding.
"Okay, your going to answer that question a lot today, and I take you were in Geometry at your last school?" I nodded my head. "Then you should be fine." She walked away and the bell rang. Announcements started, we said the pledge and all sat back down. There were a bunch of sport announcements then there was something about something called GSA. I turned to the boy next to me.
"Yo, Hun," He looked at me like I was crazy, "What's that GSA thing?" He rolled his bright blue eyes at me. He had dark drown hair that was spiked up a little.
"Little warning new girl, if you want any chance of making good friends I would stay away from that group."
"Yeah, babe I didn't ask for your advice I asked what it was I'll make those decisions on my own." He rolled his eyes, "Well? I'm waiting."
"GSA stands for gay straight alliance they meet every Wednesday. It's a club for the gay and the outcasts, it's in the art room or something. It's a stupid idea to join. It's obvious your new and if you join your just gonna be pegged as a freak."
"Sweetie, have you seen my hair? I'm already pegged as a freak." He smiled showing brilliant white teeth, his brown eyes flashed excitement.
"Nice, I like you, I'm Max, I'm part of the GSA full fledged member. What lunch do you have?"
"It said 5 on my schedule."
"Cool, you're in my lunch, sit with my table there, I think you'll like them." I nodded and the teacher started babbling. After the long drawn out eighty minutes the bell finally rang. I picked up my bag and walked out of class with Max.
"You know? your the first person in that math class I've ever actually had a conversation with."
"Really? I find it easier to do work like that if I'm talking to someone, even if it's not necessarily about whatever we're working on."
"Yeah I see that now." Come on I'm gonna get you to Mrs. Cosentino's room then I'll meet up with you show you some of my friends and take you to Global, you'll be with my friend Conner in those classes."
"Kk, let's do this girl!" And we marched down the hallway.
