Chapter 23

After putting on my shoes, I reached for my phone to answer a call. It's been buzzing for a while and I know it's from my Mom. We have a long break to go before classes start. Hanni and I are about to go out for a walk since the weather seem so fine.

"Mom?" I muttered when I answered the call.

"Haerin-ah, it's been years..."

"Mom? Y'know Dad's checking on me here, right? I'm fine here. After pursuing my career I'll come home." I said, busy fixing myself in front of
the mirror.

"Your sister met an accident last week. I never had a plan to tell you that sudden, so I called you right now..."

"What...how is she then? That stubborn..." I murmured.

"She's dead..."

My heart skipped a beat but a laugh came out my mouth. What did I just hear?

"You're kidding me, right? You want me to come home because you knew that it's my summer break. I told you a lot of times that I don't like coming back and forth, Mom." I stated with my gritting teeth.

"She didn't survive the incident, Haerin"

"Mom?! Can you please stop talking about death just for me to come home?! I need to focus in my studies and im getting my life alone!" yelled. It's getting in my nerve. Now she's using that fucking word to lure me?

"Haerin? What's that all about?" Hanni said, peeking from the door. I shakes my head in response.

"Okay... I'm sorry..."

"M-Mom!" this is when my tears started falling one by one, "Mom you're kidding, right?!"

"I wish. Alright, take your time"

"Mom...please..."

"She's dead, I wish it wasn't real but I saw how the ground perfectly fitted her coffin where she ended up sleeping peacefully!"

With that, I ended the call.

Wait...

this can't be happening... she doesn't deserve it.

I slapped my face to wake the shit out of me. But no...I ended down the floor with tears racing down my cheeks.

"Haerin-ah...what happened?" Hanni asked.

"Hanni..." I tried to reach for her hands but mine are too weak already.

Everything is blurry. I'm so weak. What should I do? Why? I haven't even made it up to her. We didn't have the closest bond as a sister, so why?

Why do you need to leave me behind this fast, Haneul-ah?
