The streets of Sleane had always whispered of a potentially notorious gang leader, from one balding man with tattoos to the next strong hunk, until Lady V appeared. Born from the bottom of the bottom, she was a lady of no limitations, no guilt, and no remorse. She was known by everybody, feared by most - and those who did not fear her were simply too naive to know better. She'd taken out entire families, gangs, empires that got in her way, and stood over the burning ruins of her enemies houses as she laughed a laugh cold enough to freeze the sea.
Of course, that was what the rumours said, and rumours were mostly bullshit. They were tales, invented to entertain children on a dark night, a web of fabrications so easily picked apart and exaggerated in a drunken endeavor to impress friends. In fact, the latest rumour circulating through duplicitous gambling dens and darkly lit taverns was that she'd gouged the eyes out of the last man to cross her partner-in-crime, Ixiom Vyner.
Well, Lady V thought to herself with a smile, she would do anything for Ixiom. Although she hadn't yet been in a situation where ripping someone's eyes from their sockets was the appropriate reaction, perhaps she might find herself with the motivation to do something equally horrible if anyone ever hurt her best friend.
As she strode through the very streets that whispered her name, the wind tugged her hair loose from its plait and made her long coat fly out behind her as she made her way home to the headquarters of the Ivory Blades, otherwise known as the most dangerous building in the most dangerous district of Sleane. Which was, as it happened, the most dangerous city in Callea.
"Lady V." A familiar voice greeted as someone fell into step beside her.
"Vyner." She acknowledged, a small smile gracing the corner of her lips. "What news?"
"It's Leoni Myers' birthday tomorrow." Ixiom said.
"Excellent. Should we send a cake?" Lady V teased, but her heart leapt at the opportunity. Leoni Myers was the head guard at the palace - without her, the guarding system would be weakened considerably, and assuming she took the night off, they could visit the palace and scour the walls for an unguarded spot.
"I think they've already got one. Frey is throwing a party for her - guards will have a rotation to give them all some time at the party, so there'll be time between changeovers."
"It might as well be my birthday, considering our luck." They'd reached the headquarters, and she stopped just before the steps into the bustling hub of sketchy business and questionable bargains. "Send word for Devin and Esler and meet back here in a chime."

In an attic room - closest to the moon - at the top of a building tucked beside busy streets but away from prying eyes, Lady V turned into someone else entirely as she shed her long black coat like a second skin and unlaced her sturdy boots.
