Prompt: A lonely writer moves into an old mansion with a sinister history on Halloween night. Strange and supernatural things begin to occur forcing them to face the malevolent spirits that haunt the house. The only way to leave is to use the eerie experiences to create an inspiring story that will last a lifetime.

IN HINDSIGHT MOVING INTO SOME CREEPY MANSION ON HALLOWEEN was most definitely the wrong move.

I mean everything here lines up to be something out of a horror film.

But I was so happy to finally be out of my old apartment. I hated that place and finally escaping the nosy neighbors was refreshing.

"And that should be the last of the boxes Isla."

I looked up to where my longtime best friend Ryder stepped out of the new mansion.

"Thanks Ry. It means a lot to help me this sudden. I hope I didn't disturb any Halloween plans of yours." I told him.

"You know I'm always here to help Isla. You should call more; I miss hanging out with you." Ryder told me.

"I know. I'll try now that I'm out of that place." I told.

Ryder gave an awkward smile as he looked back at the mansion.

"So, I assume you're writing must be paying well to have bought a place like this. Even if it is kind of creepy."

"I wish my writing paid that well. I inherited it. Family member kicked the bucket, and I now own their mansion. The luckiest thing to happen to me, becoming a homeowner and not paying an arm and a leg for it." I told him with a grin.

I believe it was one of my aunts who had died. A great aunt who I had spent a lot of time with as a kid but like the rest of my childhood I didn't recall much of it. Regardless she clearly had thought well of me since she left the mansion for me.

This mansion could hopefully be that push I needed to really get my life going.

"It was nice seeing you Ryder, I should start getting settled in. Thank you so much for helping me move in." I told him.

Ryder smiled. "Of course. Don't be a stranger."

With those last words we parted ways, and I headed inside the mansion.

Despite being a mansion, it is on the smaller side. There were five bedrooms in the mansion and four bathrooms along with a few other rooms placed throughout.

I had never actually been somewhere as big as this mansion so it would take some time getting used to having so much space.

But having lots of space meant I could set up an actual office for my writing, which is the first thing I set out to do.

My idea of settling in wasn't resting but making this mansion feel like home.

As much as I appreciated Ryder's help, I prefer being alone. I do live a lonely life but it's one I've become adapted to.

It's much easier to communicate with characters on the screen of my computer than real people with feelings I have to take into consideration.

For my office I picked out one of the empty bedrooms. I'm only one person so in the long run I only need one of the large rooms to be a bedroom. Although it could be beneficial to have a bed in my office.

On top of writing, I have to do promotions for when my book is published and I'm sure I'd be spending long nights in here.

With all that in mind I began bringing things into my office.

I had this move planned for a little bit, which meant I had bought some furniture. I didn't have to pay rent this month with the sudden reveal of the mansion which gave me some extra cash to work with.
