Prompt: WattpadParanormalLP: You are a centuries-old ghost who inhabits the center of a big city since it was just a village, the existence of a ghost is difficult, but when Halloween comes you can walk among the living again. What can you do when the only time you have is one day a year.

MOST GHOSTS MY AGE DON'T KNOW HOW TO INTERACT WITH modern people. They find themselves stuck in their age and don't like to grow up. Ghosts can be stuck in their ways and violent.

Perhaps it was a gift that I was such an adaptable ghost. Unlike the rest of the ghosts in the city I was free to travel about. I wasn't locked in one place the way others were. I couldn't leave the city, but I could wander.

And I had wandered since the day my vicious husband and his friends decided to kill me.

Most ghosts with my demise would be unstable and violent but I found that revenge quelled that unstable element in me.

While I hadn't been able to exact my revenge upon my husband as he ended up dying of an illness as did his friends, I could enact it on the abusers in the city. That always cheers me up.

Of course, I can only do small things. My presence is never strong enough too full on kill somebody. I can mostly blow lights out and freak them out to the point they flee. Except on one night.

Halloween.

The one night that us dead could walk among the living.

It's my favorite night.

"You're intending to go out again tonight aren't you, Elizabeth?"

I looked over to see one of the many other ghosts who inhabited the town. They're stood Olivia one of the newer ghosts. She's one of the more depressing ones as well.

Mostly because she is just a child. Barely even ten years old. I find the children's ghost to be the most traumatic ghost. Its rare children don't become ghosts, especially if the die in ways other than sickness. There is always something keeping them tethered to the realm instead of moving on into the afterlife.

Olivia's tether comes in the form of mentally ill mother who didn't take her death well. Olivia refused to move in fear of what would become of her mother.

Multiple ghosts tried to help her, but she never budged.

She liked me as I had driven out her father who had been the one that resulted in her death. He may not have directly killed her but his neglect resulted in it.

"I always go out." I told her.

"Does it never tire you being the protector of people who don't even know you exist?" Olivia asked.

"It's something that keeps me going and keeps me here. Just like you are looking after your mother." I told her.

Olivia gave a toothy grin that gave me a pang in my dead heart.

She's missing teeth that never grew in before she died.

"You know for such an old ghost you both dress modernly and don't talk weird. Mr. Bennett speaks weirdly." Olivia told me.

"Mr. Bennett is both old and British. It's a curse he won't ever escape." I told her.

She is right though. I can change my clothes on Halloween as it's the only time my body is solid enough to actually move and grasp things. Only a few decades after my death did I grow bored of my clothing.

I found it easier to blend in on Halloween if I dressed up.

The plan is always a costume and before Halloween ends to go into regular clothing.
