-'CHAPTER 10'-

"It's okay to feel all that Bonnie, you know yourself better than anyone if you need time, you need time it doesn't matter when you get back I'll always be here for you" Elaine says softly.

"Yeah, thanks, Elaine." Bonnie responds from the other side of the phone.

"Oh, hold on, Stefans calling," the brunette says.

"Alright, you and Elena, drive safe," the blonde adds before hanging up. Bonnie had been going to see her mom, who left her as a kid. It was tough, and Elaine offered to go, but Bonnie and Elena had just ended up going.

It had been a few days since the blonde had seen the hybrid, but she made a mental note to thank him the next time she saw him.

The blonde's phone rang again, and she quickly answered it, putting it on speaking before finishing mixing her soup.

"Hey Elaine, whatcha up to?" Caroline asks.

"I'm making some food, what about you?" Elaine responds.

"Well, I'm calling to tell you to get ready. we're gonna go shopping," Care enthused.

"Shopping for what," the blonde human asks.

"You seriously didn't just ask that. Since when does anyone need a reason for shopping? " Care asks sassily on the other line.

Elaine laughs lightly "fine but come in and eat some soup first."

"What kind?" the vampire asks.

"Clam chowder," the blonde says, taking a spoonful and stuffing it in her mouth.

"Do you have cookies?" Care asks shyly.

"Yup, I made some the other day."

"Alright, on my way," the vampire hangs up. The blonde made sure to make a mental note to buy something for Rebekah, so when everything's resolved and she's undaggered, she could have something.

It had been a few days after shopping with Care, and Elaine was now wearing a new outfit she had bought with care to the bookstore.

A small bell rang when she opened the door, and the smell of vanilla hit her when she walked in.

The blonde instantly went to the romance section, taking her time to pick out a few books.

"I'm more of a thriller guy, but I dabbled into some romance myself," a familiar voice speaks.

Elaine looks up to see Elijah standing in front of her, an old suit on, and his hair slicked back. She beams, hugging the vampire.

He stiffens, shocked at the blonde's enthusiasm before laughing lightly returning the hug.

"You're back," she smiles.

He nods. "Klaus is trying to figure out a deal to get my other siblings, but it seems I'm released for now."

Elaine nods. "What are you doing here?" she asks.

"Well, I just finished book shopping," he says, holding up a book. "And I saw you in here. I wanted to say hi."

Elaine smiles. "Well then, come on, we need to get you out of that dusty suit." Elijah tilts his head as Elaine leads him to the cash register.

The two end up in a suit shop with Elaine picking out ties and different colored suits. Elijah had about twenty more suits in his closet but decided to let the blonde shop for him.

"Okay, you need to wear more red ties," Elaine declares, holding up a crimson red tie to the man.

Elijah smiles."Okay, this doesn't look too bad." he gently grabs it from her hand.

"And this green one will bring out your eyes," Elaine states, handing him a green tie.

"Okay," Elijah smiles at her determined tone.

The two had left the suit store, and now the blonde was leading him into another clothing store.

"I don't think this is really my style," the original speaks up, looking at the selection of shirts, jeans, and sweatpants.

"You can't wear suits all the time, Elijah," the blonde states. "This is for a chill outfit like you know for bed."

Elijah stays silent.

"You do wear other clothes, right?" she questions, raising a brow. "Tell me you don't wear your suit to bed."

Elijah doesn't meet her eye, simply opening his mouth, but words don't come out.

"Okay, that's a problem." she tugs his wrist, and the original follows.

"Look, sweatpants! come on, it won't kill you. " The woman holds up a pair of grey sweatpants.

"I suppose not." Elaine hands him the pants before moving on to the next aisle.

Elaine had ubered to the mall, so Elijah offered to take the blonde home, which she accepted. On the ride home, Elaine had convinced the suited man to take her to Starbucks, which the vampire had just tried for the first time to Elaine's surprise.

The blonde had also introduced Elijah to Lana del Rey, which he said was 'fine', but the blonde had seen him nodding his head.

"Thanks for the trip, Elijah." Eliane smiles, stepping out of the car.

"The pleasure was all mine," the original nods.

Elaine walks back into her house, setting down some clothes she has bought. The woman really needs to stop shopping so much.

A few days had gone by when Elaine got a call from Elena. The blonde had answered just in case it was something important even though she still didn't feel like talking to the brunette.

"Hello," Elaine asks, trying to sound upbeat even if she is mad at her friend.

"It's Caroline's dad. He's dead," Elena says grimly.

Elaine sits up from her couch. "What?" she rasps out.

"Caroline needs you, so just please come over," the brunette pleads.

Elaine nods. "I'll be right there," she says before hanging up and quickly heading to her best friend's house.

When she arrived, Elena was sitting on the porch sadly. A cold breeze passes Elaine, making her shiver as the sun sets.

Elena perched her head at the sight of Elaine. The brunette began explaining about Caroline's father and how he had vampire blood in his system when he was murdered.

She also broke the news about Caroline's father not wanting to be a vampire.

About an hour went by, and Elena had left while the blonde sat on the porch. Finally, when night arrived, Caroline finally stepped out of the house.

Tears brimmed the vampire's eyes as her face scrunched in sadness.

Elaine stood.

"He," Caroline stumbled on her words, trying to keep her voice strong. "He's gone." The blonde finally lets out.

Elaine takes a single step forward, wrapping her arms around her friend.

Caroline finally let it all go. Her sobs etched the lonely street as Elaine held her friend together.

She simply rubbed her friends back, and the vampire took deep breaths in between sobs. "He's gone, Elaine, my daddy's gone," Caroline weeps.

Elaine cupped Caroline's cheek gently, wiping a tear from the blonde's face. "We're going to get through this together, okay?" Elaine mutters comfortably.

Caroline nods before sinking into her friend again, nudging her head into the comfort and warmth of her neck.
