[ NEW YORK, NEW YORK ]Now this is what she was looking forward to all day. Hours upon hours of being throughout the day and not having the time to spend it with the one person who makes it worth it gets...exhausting. Imani arrived at the unfamiliar studio, her eyes catching the various vinyls belonging to the many artists that walked in and out of the studio. It was only fair that she walked the halls with a festering grin, her eyes crinkling with glee as she slowly approached the room where he told her he would be. Now out of her once sweaty clothes, she opted for a green oversized Mickey Mouse sweater with sweats and Nikes. She wanted to be the utmost comfortable and warm since the weather was chilly. Her knuckles quietly tapped the wooden door, knocking softly so that he would know that she arrived already.
They had developed a 'schedule' if you would call it to continue seeing each other without prying eyes. It was more to ensure their privacy, but it was also to ensure that Eve wouldn't know. They didn't want to tell her just yet. Plus sneaking around made them feel like young kids who were struggling against the bondage of forbidden love. As Imani looked at her nails, she soon began beaming once the door cracked open, revealing DeVanté.
"You're late." He said with a smile, his hand naturally holding onto one of hers pulling her inside. Giving her a swift yet slow kiss on her lips all while mumbling taste like cherry, he closed the door behind them.
The smell of weed mixed with his cologne welcomed her as she looked around the quiet yet spacious studio. The boys weren't there which made her wonder where were they, but yeah at least it left them having time alone.
"I was just messin' wit' you—c'mere I wanna show you something." He replied, leading her over to the sound booth. Imani sat on the swivel chair as DeVanté eagerly sat next to her. Pulling out a book he then opens a flips through pages filled with words before stopping at one. "I finished it," He merely stated.
Imani looked visibly confused, gesturing for him to continue. "The song. I finished writing it." He repeated with more words this time, another appearing shy. Imani let out an Oh! in the relaxed realization of what he meant, growing surprised and impressed that he finished it that fast. "Really?" She asked, followed by DeVanté's nod, "That's amazing and slightly scary 'cause how did you manage to write all that so fast."
So Uptown was planning on producing and putting out a soundtrack for the upcoming movie that was set to come out next year in April. Who's The Man? Jodeci of course began planning a track for the soundtrack. Imani was offered to do a song but didn't have an idea of what she wanted it to be yet... or the exact time.
"It just comes to me naturally. So I was wondering if you'd wanna read the lyrics? I want your opinion," DeVanté asks handing her the notebook. He normally wouldn't let most people see what he wrote but he trusted Imani and wanted her opinion. "Sure, but don't be mad by my opinion," She answered, taking the book out of his hands. In bold inked letters was the title of the song called Let's Go Through The Motions. "Okay the title has promise. Hmm." She proceeded to read the lyrics her eyes taking in the words, sensing an obvious sexual theme coursing through the paper. "You talked about If being freaky this is the epitome of freak but I like it."
"All this needs is a hot ass beat to go with the lyrics," Imani beamed with a smile which only eased his worries. "I'm just tryna find something hot to go with it and I haven't gotten to shit." He answers while rubbing his temples slightly due to frustration.
"Don't beat yourself up too much about it. Eventually, with that mind of yours, you'll find it." She assures with a warm smile, "So what inspired you to create the song or am I not allowed to know?" Curiosity got the best of her, the flesh of her bottom lip coming between her teeth as she bit it, a small grin threatening to bloom as she scooted closer to him.
"You did," He responded, casually his hand reaching in to touch hers. Her skin shriveled up with goosebumps her mind ravaging with various thoughts. "How so?" She quietly asked, her face leaning closer to his. "In every way possible,"
"Hm, well, I like the sound of that." She replied, her mouth briefly grazing his lips, causing him to shiver meekly.
"I better get writing credits since I'm that much of an influence," Imani adds, leaning back before they could fully kiss. What a tease she was and enjoyed teasing him. "But I'm honored to be an influence."
Just as he was about to say something else, a knock on the door interrupted their teasing yet endearing conversation. "That must be delivery," He said, glancing over the door.
"Delivery? Wait you got it?" Imani questioned while sitting up. She did tell him about Uncle Paul's Pizza during their many conversations but never had the time to go since it was always packed. "I've been dying to get a slice." She meant that figuratively. Now that she was dancing and movies 10 times more she needed to watch what she ate which meant healthier options, although she wasn't on a diet she still fought against the cravings. Until now, plus what's wrong with treating yourself?
"Yeah, I had to call every block down the street just to find it," He responded causally. No average person let alone a guy would go out of their way to do that for something, so for him to do that made Imani feel warm inside even though it was just a small gesture, "Alright, lemme go get it." He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you, baby," Imani said, giving him another peck. Once the person knocked again, DeVanté walked quicker to the door.
Without thinking much about it, he approached the door and swung it open, expecting to see two large pepperoni and Polly cheesesteak pizzas wine in the hand of a delivery guy. However, the minute he stepped forward to greet whoever was on the other side, his light brown eyes soon became filled with darkness as he looked at the person in shock.
"Shit," Was the only word that came out of his mouth, face growing blank to hide the obvious shock he was feeling as he stared into none other than Eve's eyes. "De, is everything good out there?" She heard him let out a curse and walked over to see what happened but stopped dead in her tracks once she caught sight of the person and soon felt the same shock and even fear that DeVanté was equally feeling.
"Oh shit."
"DeVanté hey—Imani?..." Eve's tired expression soon grew wide with shock, "What are you doing here?!"
