Sitting in the car at the airport, awaiting Elijah's arrival, Yo Han was thinking about some sort of punishment for his niece. He's always been opposed to her flying out of Switzerland, especially back to Korea, but he agreed to it once in a while. And this time, just like all those times before, he agreed as well. Elijah told him that she desperately wanted to visit Ms. Ji, since she graduated recently and felt the need to show the nanny her diploma.
Yo Han was fine with that. If he was being honest, he'd admit that he actually missed Ji Young Ok a lot too, and he'd love to come visit her as well. But he couldn't. All he had was a phone, a video call at best. That's why he envied Elijah that she could easily go wherever she pleased, whenever she wanted to. And he was usually fine with that, as long as it was just for a few days, no more than a week and he could supervise her.
Yet this time, Yo Han felt a little betrayed. Elijah always told him everything about her travels, they talked everyday while she was gone and he knew exactly what she was doing all the time, for safety reasons of course. This time though, it's like she completely forgot about his existence. As soon as he dropped her off at the airport, she didn't talk to him, didn't reach out at all. He only got a few texts from Ms. Ji, to inform him that Elijah was fine. He tried calling his niece a number of times, but she never picked up.
Yo Han called her again today, wanting to know at what time she'd land, and to his surprise, she answered the call this time. And it took him all of two seconds to realize that it wasn't actually Elijah answering the phone, but someone else.
He didn't think he'd ever get to hear his voice again. It's been so long, Yo Han had almost forgotten what it sounds like. He froze when he heard the younger man speak. Obviously he couldn't say anything himself, so he just stayed on the line, and listened, trying to wrap his head around what was happening.
Kim Ga On answered Elijah's phone.
He answered it with his soft, careless voice, like he had completely no idea who was on the other end of the line. That got Yo Han thinking. He realized that Elijah must have arranged a meeting with Ga On behind his back. And then he started wondering how many times she'd done that before. He couldn't really believe that she would do something like this, that she would lie to him. But most of all, he was surprised that Elijah would want to see Ga On. He remembered how angry and disappointed she was after what happened with the younger man four years ago. She was not only mad at Ga On for leaving, but also for this whole betrayal thing. And the funny thing is, she was angry in behalf of Yo Han. It must have sounded ridiculous, but that actually brought them closer together. Elijah was so frustrated all the time, so disappointed in Ga On, that she easily took Yo Han's side and never looked back.
But that was four years ago, and now, apparently things have changed, because his dear niece was arranging meetings with the very man she despised not few years ago, without informing Yo Han about it first. Now that felt like a betrayal.
That's why he's been sitting in his car, contemplating how to scold her.
He didn't want Elijah to get back to this life, to Korea, to people who wronged her. Although Yo Han wouldn't exactly say that Ga On did anything bad to Elijah, because he's always been amazing with her and Yo Han could tell that the younger man cared about his niece deeply, but he knew that the trust was broken there. And of course Elijah being herself, she trusted people too much, which is why he was worried that she would blindly trust Kim Ga On again, and get hurt, again.
What he didn't get though, was how Elijah even knew that Ga On was back in Seoul. The last time they both saw him was four years ago, about a day or so before Ga On moved to Daegu. Yo Han obviously knew about everything that's been happening in the younger's life, because he wanted to keep tabs on him. But how would Elijah know anything? It only meant that she got involved in some dirty work, or maybe hired someone to do it for her. Sometimes Yo Han really found it both scary and amusing how much she reminded him of himself.
