Right before they came into the courtroom, lawyer Ko passed by them briefly and said that they were fucked. Apparently Min Jung Ho has a witness with solid evidence and In Guk doesn't think that the prosecution has something to undermine that, which means that Min Jung Ho is going to win today's trial and that means he's going to be released from jail soon. He's going to walk the streets freely, merely four years after murdering Soo Hyun.
Ga On cannot let that happen.
He doesn't really know what he can do to prevent it, especially since he's just a judge and it's not his place to undermine solid evidence. He can ask further questions about it and make sure that it's valid, but since he doesn't really know what it is yet, there's nothing he can do. And it's not like he can tell the public to vote for Min staying in jail, just because he wants that. The whole purpose of re-launching the Live Court Show is to bring more justice in this country. So Ga On figures that if Min Jung Ho truly has valid evidence, then it's not his place to keep him in jail because of his stupid vendetta. If that witness can prove that Min Jung Ho is innocent, then Ga On is going to have to let this man go.
He may not want to, but he'll have to.
The whole walk to the judges panel, he thinks of it. He wonders what that newfound evidence might be and why the hell somebody would come forward with it now. He continues to think about it even when Jin Joo gives her speech at the beginning of the show, talking about how they all believe in justice and wanted to reopen this project to take on controversial cases, just as the one on trial today. She's good with her words, Ga On knows that and he's proud of her that she stepped up, just like she has always wanted to.
People that came to watch the trial from the courtroom seem pleased. They seem excited about the whole thing and they even smile his way, like they're actually happy to see him back here, which warms Ga On's heart, because that's what he's been most afraid of – the public's opinion. But it's been four years and he figured that if anyone was truly mad at him, it must have passed. Right?
After the prosecution presents the case and says all about Min Jung Ho being the villain in Soo Hyun's story, it's hard for Ga On to keep his shit together. He almost cries when the prosecutor says that judge Min killed a girl that's been like a daughter to him. It's true, all of this is correct, that's what hurts most. He considered professor Min and Soo Hyun his family, closest people in the world after his parents passed away, that's why he couldn't believe that professor Min would betray them like that, all for some crazy scheme with Jung Sun Ah.
When the prosecution is done with their talk, the first round of votes is in and the majority of the nation thinks that Min Jung Ho is guilty. Ninety seven percent of people in this country on Ga On's side. He thinks this is good, that it can definitely keep professor Min in jail, maybe even add a few years to his sentence.
But then it's lawyer Ko's turn to talk and he doesn't seem to want to play, maybe because he'd rather end this trial as quickly as possible, so that they don't have to sit through it in agony.
The first thing he does is bring in the witness. And Ga On doesn't even try to hide his surprise when he sees Jung Sun Ah's little helper walk into the courtroom. Jae Hee, he thinks that's her name. She's Sun Ah's secretary, her right hand woman. She's the one who killed K along with Jung Sun Ah. She should be put on trial herself, not testify in Min Jung Ho's case. Ga On wants to say something, yell at her in anger, tell everyone to put her in jail, but he can't. He'd have to explain how he knows what he knows and he doesn't have anyone who can back up his story, because Yo Han is dead, and he's the only one who saw Sun Ah and Jae Hee kill K. So he has to just sit here and look at that woman say what she has to say about Min Jung Ho.
