Jordyn's POV
I pull into the driveway and put the car in park. I inhale and close my eyes as anxiety kicks in. I exhale nervously, and I look back at Lucy. She's chewing on her fingers as she stares at the window in curiosity, and I instantly smile. She hasn't met the evil in the world yet, and neither has Micah. Hopefully they will have better lives than we did. But you never know what the world will do to destroy you next.
I shake the thoughts from my mind, get out of the car, and take Lucy in my hands on the way to my old home. It still smells the same as if nothing has happened in these last few months. I sigh and put my fingertips on the doorknob, but I can't bring myself open the door. All the memories start to flush over me in seconds, and I can't decide whether I should cry or laugh.
I turn my head to find my secret hiding place: a hidden ditch with a huge rock in the middle. When my eyes find the vines that hide the entrance, I can't look away. The memory of police lights flush over me as well, and that's when I force myself to open the door. If I stayed there any longer, I would've collapsed and refused to return to my feet.
The smell of scrambled eggs and bacon instantly fills my nose. Logan. I sit on the couch, and Lucy starts to whine. I get the remote off of the arm of the couch and turn the TV on. Surprisingly, the TV turns on, and SpongeBob's laughter fills the room. Greg. I immediately shut the TV back off and breath heavily.
Lucy begins to stare at me, and I look at her while my eyes begin to water.
"I'm sorry," my voice shakes and I squeeze my eyes shut.
After a few seconds, I set Lucy on the on the floor, and she props herself up, ready to crawl. She moves a little, but quickly falls and begins to whine. Drool and tears start to run down her face, so I walk in the bathroom to get a wash-rag. Soon as my nose get a smell of rose perfume, my feet instantly stop. Rue.
No. I'm not crying anymore. I'm sick of being weak. All of my family is gone, but I've got a new family now. My friends. The past happened for a reason, and I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later.
I brush off my thoughts and walk back in the living room, wiping off the drool and tears from her face. I pick her up and bounce her on my knee to calm her down, and eventually, she does.
I don't remember why I came here. To refresh my memory, to torture myself, to help me move on after I leave. I don't know, but I don't know whether I should be happy or upset.
All I know is that I need to find out soon.

Carl's POV
I shout as I'm running down the stairs, "Daryl! Daryl! I found him! I found Micah!"
I trip on the last step and run into him. "Easy there, boy. Where was he?"
"Chan. He took him so we would find him..."
"There ain't many places he could be. We would've, of course, looked here first."
"That's not what I meant. He's dead."
He pauses. "Oh. Well, I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
We wrap our arms around each other and pat each other on the back.
"Where is he?" he asks.
"In the bathroom," I point upstairs.
He nods and runs up the steps.
It doesn't matter really. I'm going to be dead in a few weeks. Hopefully Jordyn will make it out alive. No one should live without a mother, and I'm going to make sure she stays alive, even if it kills me.
