Last year was Giyuu's coronation for being crowned as the new Vampire King of Mizucho, a kingdom which was populated with both humans and vampires, but is exclusively ruled by vampiric authority.

Around 3 years prior, both races had finally come to a compromise. The vampires only ask for blood donations from humans, where in return, humanity would be granted miles of farmland and guaranteed protection.

The former King of Humanity, who is a sickly man, had agreed to relinquish his power in order for the vampires to fully pledge into the government.

The fact that no human representatives were allowed in the court no longer bothered the evicted human king. He knew conceding without a fight was for the better despite his initial hesitation in trusting them in keeping his subjects safe.

Humanity would not survive much longer if they had to keep fighting every other race as their enemy, so it was worth the risk of giving the vampires full government status.

The retired king now lived among the people, with only his youngest daughter, Shinobu, to care for him. At the blossoming age of 20, she had to work at a local bakery and shoe store in order to support the both of them.

When Shinobu was 13 years old, a carriage accident occurred which resulted in the deaths of her mother and her older sister, Kanae. Kanae had been scheduled to marry the eldest son of the Shinazugawa family — who is named Sanemi — the next week. The tragedy deeply scarred Shinobu as she had been close to her mother and even closer to her sister.

It influenced the way Shinobu thinks, as she strives to keep being strong for her father. Better yet, she wanted to keep persevering towards a hopeful future which would make her mother and sister proud.

Despite her and her father's now working class life, Shinobu's former status as a princess allowed her to be invited as one of the guests who was asked to attend the Vampire Prince's coronation afterparty.

She was invited specifically due to her being more physically able to attend than her father, who was aging and ill, but she was welcome to bring any wisdom or words he had to the event.

She understands her reason for being invited as an important guest was because of being a former princess. Yet, the fact that she was a human made her suspicious of her safety at the party. Her father assumed it was some kind of reassurance of no intended hate and strengthening of relationship between the current and former royal families, something along those lines.

She desperately did not want to go despite her father's repetitive asking, as her overall judgment towards the invitation was an insult to her father's downfall.

She resented the vampires for not providing financial support to her father to manage his failing health, despite her protest on the matter the day they left the palace. Ever since then, his health started to decline more rapidly.

A few days before the coronation, her father finally pleaded with her — he was full on begging her. He reasoned that it will please the vampires and again, stated that it will boost relations between races, since a representative as a former princess of humanity herself would demonstrate the two side's trust in one another.

Shinobu gave in and agreed to attend the coronation, right after making arrangements at her jobs who are more lenient with her since she worked hard. In addition, the business owners had reminiscent respect as they recognized Shinobu as former royalty.
