ISABELLE AND JASMINE found themselves spending most of their time in the library, accompanied by Sam, Gilly, and Shireen, Stannis' daughter. Shireen was diligently teaching Gilly how to read, while the twins and Sam combed through the aisles in search of books that might shed light on the White Walkers."Come on," Shireen encouraged Gilly, pointing to a page in her book. "You know this one. It looks like an animal."
"Snake," Gilly said, her face lighting up. "Snake... S! It's an S!"
"Right, very good!"
Sam, however, couldn't resist chiming in. "Did you know that the youngest Lord Commander in history, Osric Stark, was elected at the age of?"
Gilly and Shireen turned their attention to him, their book momentarily forgotten.
"What age?" Isabelle inquired, holding a book in her hands as Jasmine reached for another.
"Ten, can you imagine?" Sam's face brightened with enthusiasm.
"You'll learn, I promise," Shireen assured Gilly as their focus was back on their book. "I taught Ser Davos, and old people are terrible at learning new things."
Gilly didn't miss the opportunity to taunt Sam. "Well, you're a wonderful teacher, very patient!"
"I only mentioned that the more time you spend practicing, the faster you'll be able to read," Sam defended himself.
"That's alright," Gilly said. "We're doing just fine. I'm sure you and Ostrich Stark have a lot to talk about."
Jasmine and Isabelle couldn't help but snicker at Sam's forlorn expression as he gazed at his book.
"How old were you?" Gilly inquired, turning her attention to Shireen.
"Three."
"Three?!" Sam couldn't hide his surprise. "Who taught you, your mother?"
"No, old Maester Cressen did," Shireen explained. "I had a lot of time to practice. My mother kept me inside because..."
Gilly chimed in, showing her curiosity. "What do you call it in the South, what happened to your face?"
"Greyscale," Shireen replied. "What do you call it north of the Wall?"
"I don't know," Gilly admitted. "But two of my sisters had it. They both died. How did they cure you?"
Now, Isabelle and Jasmine were wholly engrossed in the conversation.
"I don't remember," Shireen Baratheon said thoughtfully. "I was a baby. Lots of people came and tried, I think. Whatever they did, it went away. What happened to your sisters?"
"Only once at the end," Gilly said somberly. "They were covered with it. Their faces, their arms. They acted like animals. My father had to drag them out to the woods on a rope."
"Did you ever see them?" Sam inquired, captivated by the tragic tale.
"My father made them move out of the keep into the huts outside. None of us were allowed to go near them. But we heard them, especially at night. They started to sound not like themselves."
"What did he do to them in the woods?" Shireen asked, concern etched on her face, but Gilly appeared hesitant to respond.
Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the entrance of Selyse, the mother of Princess Shireen, putting an end to their discussion.
"Mother," Shireen greeted her with a polite smile.
"Leave us," Selyse ordered, addressing the twins, Sam, and Gilly.
