Chapter 5 A Choice

The remainder of the day was pretty uneventful as far as the Nexus goes. I went to the palace and saw the Daimyo. He told me that Uncle Leo had informed me about my and Riley's suspicions and that his guards were taking some extra precautions before the challenge started.

I talked to my mom and dad about it. I stayed with them for a while and talked.

"How long have you and Riley had this feeling Mija?" my mom asked me.

"Riley felt it when he first got here. I only felt it when we got into town, and it was worse when night came. I tried to brush it off really, but I couldn't"

"I just thought that it was because we had never spent the night at the Nexus and weren't used to the quiet and cold," I said and my dad interrupted

"You don't have to feel bad about having that feeling, me and Leo tried our best to make sure you and Riley had a sixth sense for danger."

"It's one of the things that you learn in becoming a ninja."

"If you both think something is off the Daimyo will believe you, he has taken extra precautions with his guards"

"It's good that you are recognizing when something is off, your training is paying off Nora" My dad explained

"Even if nothing happens then it's better to be safe than sorry," My mother said.

When Night came I was told by the guard that we had to leave my weapons in the entrance so that none of the other warriors would try anything while everyone slept. I detached one of my blades and set it down but kept the other half and made it small just in case.

Me and my brothers slept in a pile away from some of the other warriors.

Before I settled in to sleep I saw there was one wall facing us with two rooms. On the left, I could see Daimyo and Ember waving to the warriors goodnight. One of the precautions was that the kids would sleep in the same room as them just so they could be together.

The room next to theirs was where Uncle Michelangelo was staying, the light was off he probably slightly turned in.

I settled in and I was comfortable but cold with my blanket. I got one for Tyler and Riley because they were more cold-blooded than me and Martin. I didn't want them freezing.

I tried to sleep alone but I couldn't get comfortable. I saw that Martin was sitting on the floor sitting upright leaning against the wall snoring. I walked, gave him a blanket, and lay down on the ground with my head on his lap.

Riley joined and laid on his back with the back of his head on my stomach and Tyler laid his head on Martin's shoulder and sat us right and fell asleep.

Tyler and I were born human heaters. That's why in the summer Martin hated it when I wanted to sleep with him because I radiated heat when I was sleeping or out of the shower. Tyler is the same way.

It was cold so Riley and Martin didn't mind us sleeping with them.

We slept pretty peacefully until I woke up in the middle of the night. It was pitch black outside of the arena. There were some torches around us for warmth and the moon had lit up the part where we and the other warriors were sleeping. It also illuminated the palace walls.

I tried to go back to sleep but my body wouldn't let me.

I just stared at the arena in front of us and I saw multiple shadows crawling up the wall three going to Mikey's room and three going to the Daimyo's room"

I shot up and yelled at them to stop and get down, that woke up my brothers and the other warriors. My brothers saw what was happening and Riley understood.

"Riley go get the guards now. Martin wakes up the other warriors and tells them to get ready to protect Daimyo, Tyler comes with me!" I was yelling at them and Riley went to tell the guards me and Tyler ran as fast as we could.

We got to the Daymo first and he had been woken up by the other warriors who were yelling at the windows to try to wake them up.

Me and Tyler got there and the assassins were almost going to hurt the twins. I stabbed the first assassin with my blade through the heart, it killed him.

Alidora took the kids and Tyler took down the last two. Everyone was unharmed just then the guards came in. Then I remembered Mikey. I didn't go to him first. I figured if the warriors woke him up he would fight them off until we could help him.

Tyler stayed with Daimyo and his family while I bolted over to Uncle Mikey's room. He was wide awake now and he had taken down one of the assassins.

I jumped in to help him. I punched one of them and he fell and one of them was swinging a blade at me. I was trying my best to not hit my Uncle. I was taking a swing and Mikey would hit him with his weapon.

He fell out of the window in the end.

"What the hell was that?!" He asked

"I don't know" I responded

I didn't get another word in before the first assassin got up and threw a curved blade at Michelangelo. I dove down and tackled him as Tyler ran in. I wrestled with him before I finally stabbed him in the head. And he stopped moving.

I looked back and Tyler was holding Uncle Mikey's head up. The blade had hit him in the shoulder and was still striking out. My dad and Riley ran in with other guards

"We have to get him to the healer!" My dad yelled he helped me and Riley pick him up and we ran him to the healers pavilion.

We laid him down on a mat and waited. Usagi had heard about what happened and gave my dad some herbs to help him.

Me and my mom stayed there overnight and used the herbs my dad had shown me worked on Uncle Leo. Except he was poisoned, I figured it wouldn't hurt to try but they didn't do much.

I brought some of my own medicine. I had brought some hibiscus tea so I gave it to Mikey thinking maybe it would help.

Riley came back to check on us. He explained that Martin wasn't allowed to see Mikey since he was going to fight against Kane today and they didn't want anything else to happen.

I tried to decide if I should leave Mikey with my mom and the healer and go watch my brother, but I wouldn't be here to protect my mom and Mikey.

I thought maybe my mom could go to my place. I figured she could give Martin some advice or be there to watch him with my dad.

Uncle Leo and the Daimyo showed up to talk to the healer and visit Uncle Mikey. My mom went to see my dad and my brother. She said if she needed me she'd be back.

"Master Leonardo, can I talk to you about something?" I asked almost sheepishly, I never meant to but when I talk to the one Uncle or my dad about something serious I have my tail tucked firmly in between my legs.

He looked at me and then back at Mikey still lying on the mat with the healer speaking to the Daimyo, he smiled and softened his eyes when he looked back at me.

"Is this a Master Leonardo conversation or is this an Uncle Leo conversation?" He asked smiling softly

I looked down to my side

"Can this be an Uncle Leo conversation," I said looking up at him. He smiled warmly put his arm around my shoulder and led me toward the door,

"What's wrong Nora? Well, other than the obvious." He tilted his head toward Mikey and the Daimyo.

"I feel like I should join my parents and be there for Martin today, but who's gonna watch over Mikey,"

"And I don't think you should stay because you're his master and also the oldest. So you should be there." I listed

"I see," He said, thinking for a bit.

"But this can't be the only thing that is on your mind?"

"I want to think I made the right choice going to help the Daimyo and his family and not Uncle Mikey,"

"I-I thought Uncle Mikey could handle them," I said looking at my feet.
