Phil's PoV

I saw the door there and I stopped. The window was duct taped over. Obviously, no one bothered to fix the broken window from when... that happened. I didn't like this house. It brought back to many bad memories. But, Dan said he wanted me to be here. So I grabbed the door handle and pushed the door over.

What my eyes were greeted with hurt me in ways I didn't know was possible. Charity, Tristan, and Claire were in a huddle on the floor, hugging and crying. Then there was Mrs. Howell. She was collapsed against the wall. A gun was in her hand and there was a bullet hole under her chin. And finally, Dan. He was laying limply on the floor in a pile of blood. His breathing was slow and weak. His face was pale and his dim eyes were fluttering shut.

I felt tears stream down my cheek. "No," I said. "No no no no!" I ran over and grabbed Dan. "Dan. Dan get up. You can't die," I said, slapping his cheek lightly.

He smiled. "Hi, Phil," he said, smiling weakly.

"C'mon Dan. C'mon. You have to stay." I grabbed my phone and dialed 999. "Hello? Yes, I need an ambulance. My... my b-boyfriend. He's been shot and... and his mother committed suicide." I then gave them the address and hung up. I looked at Dan. He was slowly slipping away and I knew he would last much longer without assistance.

"I... can't believe we've done this... so many times. I get shot. You call the ambulance."

"Well," I said, "there was the time I jumped onto the pavement. You had to call 999 then."

He smiled lightly. "Yeah, you're right." He took a deep, shaky breath and looked at me, tears forming in his eyes. "Ph-Phil. I-I l-love yo-ou so-o much."

I stroked his cheek lightly. "I love you, too, Dan." A tear slipped down my cheek and I tested my forehead on his. I laid down with him on the floor, ignoring the coming sirens. I knew he would be safe. I knew he would live.

11 Years Later

"Phil, do you take Dan to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

I smiled. "I do."

"And Dan, do you-"

"Fuck yes, I do," he said, interrupting the priest.

"By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you, husbands. You may kiss the groom."

Dan didn't hesitate to smash his lips to mine. Everyone applauded and I smiled into the kiss. We pulled apart and looked at all of our friends and family.

Jamie, Jerry, and their 11 year old daughter, Franny, were next to me. On Dan's side, Chris and PJ, who were engaged, clapped along.

So I can officially say, 2022 was the best year of my life.
