All eyes were fixed on Colby, their gazes intense and searching for an answer. Colby felt his palms sweat and a trickle of perspiration run down his forehead as he hesitated, uncertain of how to respond. Should he join? And if he did, what would be expected of him? With a nervous grin, Colby finally managed to blurt out, "Uh, why?" Brennen and Jake exchanged a look, their expressions inscrutable. Jake simply shrugged, while Brennen shook his head. Colby couldn't decipher their body language, his nerves only increasing as he waited for their response.
"You've got talent, kid. You're... experienced."
Colby felt a genuine sense of appreciation as Brennen turned to him and complimented his skills. Brennen's words carried a weight that made Colby feel both proud and humbled. Memories of past experiences flooded Colby's mind, causing his heart to sink. He couldn't help but frown as he clenched his fists and stared down at his feet, lost in thought. Eventually, he looked back up at Brennen, his emotions still raw and unsteady.
"I need to know the qualifications, first. And what I'm doing." Colby said blankly, not noticing Jake's sympathetic gaze. Brennen nodded, his heart clenching in empathy as he knew something happened to him.
After a prolonged explanation, Colby found himself being ushered down a dimly lit corridor towards a foreboding, imposing black door. The door was adorned with menacing spikes that lined its edges, threatening to slice off any stray appendage that dared to come too close. A sense of unease crept over Colby, causing his breaths to become short and shallow as he took in the sight before him. With a nod from Brennen, Jake opened the door, and Colby's heart began to race as he stepped through the threshold, his eyes widening in apprehension.
The room was shrouded in darkness, save for the flickering light of a lone candle. A massive table loomed in the center, encircled by a group of imposing figures who regarded Colby with a predatory gaze. Despite his fear, Colby found a seat and was swallowed by the shadows. His terror only intensified upon laying eyes on the man with the tightly coiled bun of hair, who perched at the head of the table and exuded an air of authority.
"Who is this, Brennen?" A loud booming voice called out, a man with a fluffy beard looking at Brennen with concern. Colby felt his abdomen clench in worry, his aghast feeling increasing with every step he took. Brennen pulled a chair close to Colby, gesturing him to sit down. Obeyingly, Colby sat down on the rusted chair in fear, not wanting to disobey them.
"This is Colby, hopefully, a new member of our gang."
Colby felt his heart thump against his chest in anticipation, his demeanor obviously being frightened. A small hum came from the man in the man bun, seeming to take Colby in detail. "He seems... weak." The man said, not fully liking him at the moment. Colby gulped back his sassy response, not wanting to come off as rude.
"Trust me, Corey, he's not," Brennen promised Corey, Colby learning Corey's name. A small smirk came onto the bearded man's face, a nasty response coming from his mouth.
"This is him? Seriously, Brennen? This weakling is our new member?" He growled.
"Hey!" Colby shouted angrily, not liking this man. Corey chuckled, starting to like Colby.
"I like him!" Corey piped up, a huge grin on his face. Jake and Brennen chuckled, finding this very amusing. A small lady that seemed to be five-one came up to Colby, a bright smile on her face. She gasped, looking at Colby.
"Oh my gosh! Corey, babe, look at him! He's so precious!" She squealed, grasping his face and squishing his cheeks. Colby's brow furrowed, not daring to fight her off but glare at her judgementally.
"Devyn, calm down." The bearded man said, standing up and walking over to Colby. Devyn squeaked an apology and gave him personal space, the man coming closer. "So, what makes you think you have the potential to join our clique?" He growled, glaring at Colby intensely. Colby shrugged sassily, not caring anymore. "You little-"
"Woah there, Elton! Calm down." Jake called out, stopping Elton from hurting Colby. Grinning cheekily, Colby nodded thankfully at Jake.
"I think he should join, I give him approval," Corey confirmed, smiling gently. Everyone but Elton smiled and nodded with approval, a groan escaping Elton's throat.
"C'mon, seriously? What potential does he even have, Brennen?" Elton said, glaring at Brennen's green piercing eyes. Brennen ignored the question, not caring to answer as he knew Colby was talented enough that he didn't have to explain.
"So, Colby, what do you say?" Corey asked hopeful, hoping that he'd say yes. Everyone stared at him with anticipation, wanting to know his answers. Colby felt his heart beat against his chest nervously, not liking being on the spot in these types of situations.
"Uh..." Colby thought for a moment, his words getting caught in his throat. With a silent gulp, Colby sighed, glaring at them. "...Fine, I'll join your stupid crew." Corey smiled brightly, Devyn cheering and Jake clapping with a large grin.
"Excellent! We'll tell you everything you need to know tomorrow!" Corey exclaimed, smiling brightly. While everyone shook Colby's hand, Colby couldn't help but think about what he had gotten himself into.
This is probably really dangerous.
