I told her everything. I spared no detail. I didn't realize that it was that horrifying but Riley's gasps told me otherwise.
"My mom? Dead?" Her sobs filled my ears. Tears even pooled in the corners of my eyes.
"I'm so sorry Riles. There was nothing I could do."
"You saw so much gore, it's not your fault she's dead." Her voice wavered as her sobs diminished. "It's a miracle that you survived and I'm glad that they've spared you." I blinked away tears. "Paxton, can you promise me something?"
"Anything."
"Be my superhero." She left me all alone with the dial tone. I fell onto the floor as the pain consumed me. I buried my head into my knees. I'm a terrible friend. I told her that her mother had been murdered. I broke her.
"PAXTON!" Thankfully, one of the guards interrupted my thoughts. "Supper's on the porch but after you get it, stay inside!" His harsh words continued to ring in my ears. I waited until his pounding footsteps faded away. Reluctantly, I pulled myself off the floor and walked outside. I could hear screaming, so much screaming. The guards were shooting their guns and people were running, attempting to escape the madness. What's going on? A group of mismatched people began counteracting the guards gun shots.
"Stop this now!" A girl in a tattered white and blue dress screamed at the guards. Her brown hair was tied up with a rather large bow. " I watched these people walk into Disney World, smiling to see me and the other characters. They wanted to be in the happiest place on earth, turns out they walked into the deadliest place on earth." She must be the face character for Belle. I scanned the rest of the group but the rest of the misfits had their faces covered by their capes. "I'm disgusted to have ever been a part of this greedy company!" She turned on her heels and led her posse away. The guards began to laugh and share comments that were clearly crude. "Belle" then faced them and, maintaining her calm demeanor, shot the first guard in the center of his forehead. The man crumpled to the ground, landing in a heap. The rest of the army began shouting inaudible curses at the mysterious ring leader. The guards had no hesitation in picking up their guns and attempting to kill every last one of the... who are they? I could no longer watch the battle raging in front of me. I turned away only to trip on a plate of lukewarm spaghetti. I slowly stumbled to my feet and rushed into the only safe place available at the moment, my hotel room.
Anger washed over me and I slammed the door shut. My hands moved with a mind of their own, pushing everything off of the bedside table. My mood switched and I began pacing, my mind shouting one question. Who are they? I furiously pulled at my hair, the question pounding over and over in my head. I fell to the floor, clutching my head, hoping to escape from the endless torture. After a few minutes, my head was clear enough to allow me to close my eyes and allow peace to cross over my face. I didn't bother with the bed. I decided those people were rebels and forgot about them. I could finally let my dreams to relieve me of this living nightmare.
MYSTERY POV
The clicking of the train's wheels on the tracks was the metronome to the song of worries playing in my head. I watched my surroundings in fast forward out of the window. The scars from the last fight still ached. Homesickness was always with me. I'd been a rebel for a year now. Most of that was at home, manning technology at night when no one would know. Now, it was my turn to fighting. Yet fighting was the last thing I wanted to do. The real reason I was headed to Disney World was personal. "Don't worry Paxton, "I whispered "I'm on my way."
A/N Okay , so I lied when I said the next chapter was soon. I got caught up in end of the school year stuff so I'm sorry! Chapter 11 will be up within the next week! Also, who do you think the mystery person is? (I know it's obvious)
