After returning from his mission to investigate the plot against the princes, Euryalus heads straight to Kassandra to give her the information he gathered. They meet in her chambers, and Kassandra listens intently as Euryalus describes the conspirators' plans to assassinate Prince Ariston and take over the kingdom.
Kassandra is worried, but not surprised. She has foreseen something like this happening for a while, and has been waiting for the right moment to act. Euryalus urges her to speak to the king and queen and tell them everything, but Kassandra is hesitant. She knows that they are both fiercely protective of their family and might not take kindly to a warning of this kind.
Euryalus insists that it's the right thing to do, and Kassandra eventually relents. Together, they make their way to the throne room, where they find King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo deep in conversation with their eldest son, Prince Ariston. The tension in the room is palpable, and Kassandra can sense that something is off.
She approaches the king and queen and tells them what she knows. At first, they are skeptical, but as she presents her evidence, they begin to take her seriously. They ask her who she thinks might be behind the plot, and she names several individuals who she believes are involved.
The king and queen thank Kassandra and Euryalus for their bravery and quick thinking, and immediately set to work on formulating a plan to stop the conspirators. Kassandra can sense that the stakes are high, and that the future of Sparta hangs in the balance.
As they leave the throne room, Euryalus turns to Kassandra and tells her that he will do whatever it takes to protect her and their home. Kassandra knows that he means it, and feels a surge of gratitude towards him. Despite everything that is happening, she can't help but feel drawn to him, and wonders if they will ever be able to explore their feelings for each other.
"Euryalus," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "What do you think of taking a short break together?"
Euryalus nods, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips. "I think that would be good for both of us," he says, his eyes meeting hers.
Kassandra feels her cheeks flush at the intensity of his gaze, but she forces herself to maintain her composure. They both know that they must be careful not to let their emotions cloud their judgment. They have important roles to play in Sparta, and any misjudgments could lead to disaster.
Together, they set off through the forest, walking in comfortable silence. As they walk, Kassandra steals glances at Euryalus, admiring the strength and grace of his movements. She wonders what it would be like to run her fingers through his hair, to feel the warmth of his embrace.
But she knows that these thoughts are dangerous, that they must remain unspoken. So she pushes them aside, focusing on the beauty of the forest and the serenity of the moment.
"Kassandra." Euryalus breathes out her name and she can feel her heart pause. She looks up at him, locking her piercing green eyes with his brown ones.
For a moment, they simply stand there, alone together in the quiet of the forest. Kassandra can feel the tension building between them, a palpable energy that she can't ignore. She knows that Euryalus feels it too, but they are both too afraid to admit their feelings for each other.
Finally, Euryalus breaks the silence. "What did you want to talk about, Kassandra?"
Kassandra takes a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "I...I just wanted to take a short break with you. Away from all of the chaos and uncertainty of the palace."
Euryalus nods, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "I could use a break as well."
Together, they sit down on the soft ground, leaning against the trunk of a nearby tree. Kassandra can feel Euryalus's warmth next to her and it takes all of her willpower not to reach out and touch him.
They talk for a while, about everything and nothing, simply enjoying each other's company in the peaceful surroundings. As the sun begins to set and the sky turns a deep shade of orange, they both realize that they have to return to the palace.
Standing up, Euryalus offers Kassandra his hand and she takes it, the warmth of his touch sending shivers down her spine. As they walk back to the palace, Kassandra knows that their unspoken feelings for each other will continue to weigh heavily on their hearts, but for now, she is content to simply bask in the warmth of his company.
Kassandra rests her head on Euryalus' shoulder, this is the closest she can allow herself to be to him. Any closer and his warm sunrise-like sent would be far too tempting, his black hair too luscious, his blue eyes too sky-like.
Euryalus feels Kassandra's weight against him and he can feel his heart racing. He inhales deeply, taking in the scent of her hair, the feel of her against him, and the sound of her steady breathing. He wants to wrap his arms around her and hold her close, to tell her everything he feels, but he knows he can't. He can't risk his duty as a soldier and his loyalty to the prince.
Instead, he gently places his hand on her back, feeling the warmth of her skin through her thin shirt. "Are you okay?" he asks softly.
Kassandra nods, feeling a mixture of comfort and sadness at his touch. She wishes she could turn around and kiss him, to tell him how much she cares for him, but she knows the consequences would be too great. "I'm fine," she whispers back.
They sit in silence for a few moments, the only sounds being the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze and the distant calls of birds. It's a peaceful moment, but also a painful one, knowing that their feelings for each other must remain unspoken.
Eventually, Kassandra sits up straight and looks at Euryalus, "We should get back. The others might start to worry."
Euryalus nods, "Right." He stands up and offers his hand to Kassandra to help her up as well. They make their way back to camp, the weight of their unspoken feelings heavy on their hearts.
When they reach the camp, Kassandra turns to Euryalus, "I believe we should split up here, that way you may work on further investigating and hopefully capturing the conspirators."
Euryalus nods dutifully. "As you wish, Lady Oracle. But, if I may ask, what will you be doing in the meantime?"
"I will keep an eye on things from the inside." Kassandra smiles teasingly. "Why? Are you worried for me?"
Euryalus chuckles, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Of course, Lady Oracle. Your safety is always a priority."
Kassandra's heart skips a beat at the way he says 'Lady Oracle'. She knows that he addresses her with the respect that her position demands, but sometimes she wishes he would call her by her name, just once.
"Thank you, Euryalus," Kassandra says softly, looking up at him. "Stay safe."
"You as well, Kassandra," Euryalus replies, his voice just as soft.
They stand there for a moment longer, just looking at each other before finally parting ways. Kassandra watches as Euryalus disappears into the forest, feeling a pang of longing in her chest. She knows that their feelings for each other are meant to remain unspoken, that admitting them would only lead to misjudgments in their duties and ultimately disaster. But that doesn't stop her heart from aching every time they have to part ways.
