Jean realized he had messed up traveling in this area. Like most things of this new world, this situation had taken a most subtle but abrupt turn. For starters, he felt weaker than he had at any point during his 7-week scouting mission, in a few more days he was to head back to his band with some sort of intel on
the lands to the southwest of his prior location. He had been assigned, with 5 other scouts, to go out multiple directions for an allotted time to hunt knowledge and map out the new terrain. Though these scouts were nimble and smart, far and few between would some scouts not make it back. For Jean, these trips had usually gone in good order. He remembered 3 or 4 trips beforehand which the length had been of this number. And, he can remember one such trip of his youth that held a negative value. A few decades ago, Jean recalled these scouting trips were conducted in pairs. His then partner, Xzavier, had fallen between two huge boulders in a gully. Jean had stayed with him a fair few days when a pack of these mutated 'dire' wolves had found their scent. He still remembered the yells and screams of Xzavier as the pack did their deed. Jean had lit a fire around the boulders as to keep the wolves away, but their hunger, like that of the old world, brought on his partner's demise. This has always stuck with him, sometimes he cannot change the situation he was in.
Now, Jean was walking aimless around the ruins of this giant refinery. He was following the voice wailing in his mind. Looking to his environment for clues, Jean started to notice some peculiar sights. Frome before, the purple oxidization was leaching onto anything that had nutrients. As he moved closer to the epicenter of the refinery, he noticed that the rust has began to bubble up in pocket within the dusty soil. Like spores from mushroom puffs, the wind would whip and blow the purple dust from the eroding pockets of rust in the soil. Even the metal in this area had started to bleed in a certain light. This was puzzling to Jean. "What is causing this?", he thought among the repetitious voice in his mind.
As he walked further along in a circular path, he saw then the bodes of both animals and humans alike. It looked like a temporary settlement, but it had turned into a permanent grave. All the bodies, the humans, the rabbits, and the deer, were covered in the rust substance. This was with purple dust flowing from the eyes and mouths of the victims. The blotches of rust, were like a flesh-eating leprosy on the skin of the bodies. The eyes locked open in a painful stare, stream of purple flowing forth. It was at the point Jean made a starting discovery in is mind. The rust had attached and devoured these hunters and the game they were following. He may have found his answer to what is causing all this. The old world had suffered much sickness before the tipping point. This must've been sign of some contagion. A virus or pathogen was attacking organic life. He had read a few scattered medical books in his scouting, alongside he little medical visits as a child. Jean had no access to any medicine, and he was at a loss as to why exact thing would cause such decay as this.
The voice within Jean's mind screamed a blood curdling cry. "Enoughhhhhh", he screamed back. The voice subsided.
It was at this moment that again Jean was knocked to his knees. A coughing fit had come over him had come over him suddenly as whisps of purple dust whipped around him. He then felt electricity all around him was the stinging of shocking waves. As the shock waves grew heavier, and the wind whipped more purple dust, Jean saw a figure form in the blue hued electricity and toxic purple dust. The electrical dust formed into a shape of a 10-foot-tall voluptuous woman. The purple flowing hair grew forth and wrapped Jean in a cocoon like fashion. As his vision was going black, the voice entered his mind exclaiming: "resistance of your will cannot save you now". Darkness swallowed Jean then and there.
