"Assalamualaikum! I'm home" I say out loud as I enter my home and head towards the living room.

The first thing I do is I remove my hijab and free my hair from my hair claw to relieve some stress.

I see my Daadi reading the Qur'an while sitting on her favourite couch and I immediately go to hug her.

(Daadi - Grandmother)
(Qur'an - Holy book of muslims)

"Walaikumassalam meri bacchi." My Daadi says touching my cheek lovingly.

(My child)

My mom must have heard me as well because she walks into the living room while wiping her hands on the apron she's wearing indicating that she'd been preparing for dinner in the kitchen.

I don't know how she manages all this herself. If I'm to manage the home the way she does for even a day, it would already be up in flames.

"Walaikumassalam Mehr. How come you're early today?"

"I just have a slight fever Mama. So, Dr. Rayyan insisted I leave from work early." I haven't even finished my sentence and my mom is already across the room and touching my forehead to check for my temperature.

"Yeah... The fever's still there. Good thing you came home early then."

"Hmmm" I start to slightly dose off as I have my head on my Daadi's lap and I'm sprawled across the couch with her hands softly running through my hair repeatedly.

"You told me this Dr. Rayyan is very strict. Itna achha baccha tho hai... he gave you permission to leave."

(See, he's a good kid)

"Kuch achha baccha waccha nahi hai Mama! He didn't give me any permission. He threatened me into leaving!" I quickly sit up to speak in my defence.

(He's not any good kid Mama!)

"Don't be dramatic Mehr. Now, take this medicine and have a quick nap. I'll wake you up for dinner later on."

"Why're you supporting a stranger? You should be taking my side." I grumble under my breath while taking the medicine but don't argue any further.

All mothers love having the last say. No point in arguing.
