Chapter 1

All hail Mitsy Rhode

If you asked any girl in a five-mile radius of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who she wanted to be, she wouldn't skip a beat in saying the name Mitsy Rhode. To them, she was the best thing to happen since Marilyn Monroe.

Whether you loved or hated her, you could never deny she was drop-dead gorgeous, crazy rich, and drew the boys in like a moth to a flame. What more could you ask for?

There was no doubt that Mitsy Rhode was the epitome of a Soc, a west-side rich girl with everything she could ever want, the town of Tulsa practically kissed the ground she walked on as she pranced around in her stiff mini skirts, black turtlenecks and white Go-Go boots.

She had every resident of Will Rogers High School wrapped around her finger with the silky ribbon of her expensive perfume and chained them down at her feet with pearls.

"What? I just gave ol' Mr Wood a little convincing, I didn't do anything wrong." Mitsy 'innocently' furrowed her sculpted brows, holding her now 'A' graded paper in her hand as she sat with her pristine boots rested on the varnished wooden desk.

"What's 'wrong' is that you're a damn cheater, I could have done just as good if I was a blonde bimbo like you." Beatrice Von Grigg chimed bitterly, her 'D' graded essay held tightly to her chest. The mark was hidden under choppy layers of frizzy brown curls, and her disappointed tears were camouflaged by the clumpy black mascara that smudged beneath her eyes.

"It ain't cheatin'! I can't help that I'm pretty, y'know? My charm however...That's pure talent, baby. You should really try it sometime, you look like you're running out of options.." she pouted mockingly, reapplying her cherry red lipstick in the reflection of the window to her left.

"Whatever..." She scoffed and stormed off, her hair bouncing like the mane of a horse with each thundering step she took.

Mitsy snickered, she knew Beatrice Von Grigg...The young girl's heart was made of puncturing thorns, covered in the poison of her insecurity. Her voice was like the point of a dagger, as she held her words to your throat. It infuriated Beatrice to bits that she never got through to The Mitsy Rhode. Because to the golden girl of Tulsa, the edge of her blade was always too blunt.

"Miss Rhode, would you mind coming to my desk please?" Mr Wood announced, his steel-coloured eyes staring at her through a hooded gaze over the thick rim of his black glasses.

Mitsy slipped out of her chair and walked to him with a bounce in her step, her hair flowing behind her as she kept her eyes on the older man in front of her.

She leaned over his desk, pearl necklace dangling forward as her dark red nails gripped the underside of the chipped wood until her knuckles turned white.

"Yes sir?" She asked, flashing him her award-winning, movie star grin. But behind her sparkling eyes, it took every fibre of her being to hurl on the spot, she hated doing this...But she would do anything for a good grade and a shiny reputation with her teachers. (especially the male ones)

"Sweetheart, I need a favour from you," His voice dropped, "A new kid just moved into your year, a real bright youngster... And I know you, you're one of my best. I thought you could show the kid the ropes and all that. You see, sweets, he's one of them' hoods. it'll be good on him, so he doesn't end up like the rest of them." Mr Wood finished, placing his fat, wrinkled hand on hers.

She had to force the bile down her throat as she removed her hand from beneath his and ran it through her hair while she forced a sympathetic expression onto her face. "Oh, of course, Mr Wood!" Mitsy spoke sincerely, she pressed her hand onto her black turtleneck, where her heart would be.
