The half moon came up later that night. Kate and I have still been tied up along with some of the villagers on this island. They have thrown food into our cages but with our hands tied up we just left the food on the ground. The pirates continued searching for that supposed gold all through the night. By dawn Kate and I haven't gotten any sleep.
A tiny acorn was thrown into our cage, Kate saw where it had come from. I followed her gaze and saw Stella waving at us behind some bushes. I noticed Worm up in a tree with Donner. I couldn't see where Beda or Alex were but I'm sure they were nearby.
"Now what do we do?" I whispered.
"Now we break out."
Glancing back at Stella she looked like she was about to throw something. Answered my question when she perfectly threw a knife and it landed right by Kate's tied hands.
When she caught me staring Kate answered "Stella is the best knife thrower I've ever seen. She's got amazing accuracy."
Once she got her hands untied, she crawled over to me and cut off my ropes.
"I've got the lock." I took the knife from Kate.
"You know how to pick a lock?"
I placed the knife inside the lock, tugged and it clicked free, "That and I do know how to break one. Did you think I just knocked on every door in the marine base to steal supplies?"
She rolled her eyes and we quietly opened the cage door. The pirates that were left were mainly asleep, the gold search party headed out early that morning. They should be returning anytime soon.
"Matt, free the villagers in the cages. I'll keep an eye out for that search party."
I nodded and pried open the next two cages as quietly as I could. Hara stayed with me to translate that we were helping them. Some of the villagers didn't know our language. By the third cage the knife broke creating a very loud noise and it clanked against the bars.
"Shit"
We had two more cages to go and the ones sleeping now were waking up from the noise. To make matters worse the search party returned and of course Gold toothy himself spotted us.
"Guess we're doing this the hard way."
Kate ran forward. Beda shouted her name from behind a tree with her sword. He must of snuck around to grab it. He tossed it to her, she unsheathed it and met blade for blade with gold tooth.
Worm and Donner swung down from the trees and knocked over some of Gold Tooths' men on their way down. Stella ran over to me and handed me a few more knives."Hurry, I've got you covered!" She flung a knife and it hit a man square in the forehead. I turned around and got the next cage open, I heard Beda now fighting along side everyone. Stella kept throwing knives which I'm sure we're hitting every target. I got the next two cages open and surprisingly the villagers stayed to help. They picked up some rocks and chucked the rocks at the pirates while others charged right in. Stella flung a knife but didn't noticed the man charging at her from her right. I ran forward and tackled him to the ground. He kicked my side and punched me right in the jaw. That stung. I flipped onto the ground as his hands went right around my neck.
I heard a whip crack as it tied around the guys neck and he was thrown off me. Worm helped me up, his weapon of choice a damn whip.
Donner didn't have any weapon, he was just using his hands. Not fists, he literally touched a shoulder and the man in front of him hit the ground.
"Duck!"
I ducked just as Beda threw a weird circle blade into the chest of the man behind me. Alex came out of no where and sliced a mans hand off. He was using a sword just like Kate was. Kate. I had no idea where she went, so much was happening around me that I couldn't keep track. The fight was beginning to dye down though as some of the pirates were now running away. That's when I noticed that Kate and Gold tooth were fighting just on the rocks above the cages. He managed to swipe her just in the face with his arm. She shoved his sword away, elbowed him in the face and kicked him down to our level. A crunch was heard from his leg when he landed.
Gold Tooth spat out blood and crawled forward that best he could "That's impossible..."
Kate leapt down but that's when I noticed her eyes were not their normal blue. They were red. Demon red.
"How does a little girl...best me at a sword fight?" He managed to sit himself up right on a rock. That's when he noticed her eyes.
"What are you..."
Kate sword went straight at him till Stella yelled out her name. The sword was inches from his eye, Kate's eyes turned back to blue and she took a step back. Gold tooth gripped his sword and took a swipe at Kate. The sword cut her but she quickly struck back shoving her sword through his heart. She pulled out her sword and flicked the blood off it it before sheathing it.
"Everyone alright?"
"More like are you alright?" Donner took hold of her arm and, of course, it had already started to heal.
"You know me" she answered "How'd you guys find us?"
"Stella and I found the village, we found the other three later on but you and Matt were still missing." Donner said. "Stella assumed you two were just making out."
Worm chimed in from a tree branch, "These two really? Nah I don't see it. Kate's too much of a bad ass for Matt."
I threw a rock up in the tree just barely missing him but he got the point.
"Anyway the village had missing people from it too so we figured you and the missing villagers had to be somewhere. Alex was the one who actually found this place first."
Alex nodded and sheathed his sword. Hara and a few of the villagers that stayed walked up to us and invited us back to their village. We agreed and upon arrival the villagers praised us for rescuing their people. There was a huge banquet of food for us and a blazing fire in the middle of the village along with their festive music.
So far Kate and I were the only ones to not join in on the dancing that was going on. We were sat over drinking some of the fruit juice they gave us.
"So you planning on staying with us or staying here?"
"Stay here? There's just a village, you find me a city and then I'll make my final decision." I took a sip. "Besides, I'm still wondering why you changed to red eyes."
She grinned, "I told you before, I'm a werewolf. It happens sometimes, I guess, it's hard to explain...it's kind of like the werewolf takes control but I'm still somewhat there, it sounds crazy to begin with."
"Stating you're a werewolf is also crazy to begin with."
She nudged me playfully with her arm and pulled out a necklace. She handed it to me, it wasn't fancy or anything girlish at all. It was suited to me and had a little red gem on it.
"I hope it's fine, I had Stella make it. Anne was wearing mostly red when we met her, so when you look at it maybe you'll be able to remember her."
I gripped the necklace, stunned and touched by this gift. I didn't know what to say luckily Stella made her way over to us.
"Come on and dance you guys!"
"Stel, you know I don't dance." Kate still got, reluctantly, pulled into the dancing crowd. Despite her protest, Kate danced with Stella and everyone else most of the night. Even I got pulled into the crowd and by late into the night none of us had trouble falling to sleep.
