Phoenix's secret

"Phoenix?" I muttered as I looked at the charcoal black Raptor with a fire like stripe, as she stood before me.

Only to watch as she turned back into a human, but I could faintly hear the sound of her bones breaking and reshaping as she turned human. She then looked at me a little awkwardly as it seemed like she was trying to think of something to say. I don't blame her for having trouble coming up with something to say. Like how would you expect her to tell someone that 'oh by the way I'm a Hybrid'? That has to be hard and honestly it's something you can't exactly bring up.

Unless you're me.

"So . . . is this a new thing?" I asked trying to lift the mood. Well I got a laugh from Phoenix, so I'm classifying that as a win.

"Kinda," Phoenix answered as Blue grumbled at that.

"Does it hurt when you change forms?" I questioned curiously, causing Phoenix to raise a brow.

"At the very beginning it did. It literally felt like I was being ripped apart then put back together. But it doesn't really hurt now. It just kinda aches a bit," Phoenix muttered thoughtfully.

"It's pretty cool that you can turn into a Raptor," I commented as it was.

I mean think about it, you can be human one minute and if you're in danger or something. You could turn into a carnivorous dinosaur to protect yourself if you know you won't be able to fight with self defense.

"I guess, in a way it is," Phoenix nodded although she seemed to of gone into her thoughts.

But how did she become a Hybrid? It doesn't make sense. It's not like she woke up one day with the ability to turn into a Velociraptor. Right? Right.

.

.

Wait. Wait. Wait.

"I was born with them, but had to hide them as there isn't much of an explanation behind them," she explained with a shrug before I could even think about asking her how long she had them for.

Phoenix's birthmarks. Those markings she had since she was born. They're also there in her Raptor form too. Has she been a Hybrid since she was born?

"The Indominus is the reason that I can be able to turn into a Raptor. But Wu, is the reason why I am a Hybrid," Phoenix explained to me.

"Would it be okay, if I asked how he did it?" I gently asked her not really wanting to pry too much if it was a sensitive subject.

"Wu experimented on me before I was even born. He labeled me as Vr-05. Mum didn't even know as he played it out as doing monthly checkups on her pregnancy," Phoenix muttered as I witnessed her pupils turn into slits as she talked about Wu.

Note to self, don't bring Wu up in the future. Unless it's to inform her of him being on the Island so that she could potentially dispatch him, her own way. Which I hope would be slow and painful, in a not so blood thirsty way.

"That's horrible and despicable. But why would he do something like that?" I asked incredulously. That is just disgusting experimenting on someone before they were even fully developed in the womb is horrifying.

"Honestly, I have no clue," Phoenix responded.

What was Wu's plan? What did he expect to happen when Phoenix would find out the truth? Maybe he didn't think. Maybe his ego got the better of him and made his already ginormous head do something utterly repulsive to another living being. Now I can understand why Phoenix had said 'I guess' to when I made that comment about how cool it was to be able to turn into a Raptor. Now I feel bad. Actually that begs another question. How traumatized is Phoenix? Something tells me it's more that she'll ever be comfortable revealing. Which I can understand.

So, imma change the subject.

"Are you alright? Where are you hurt?"

Never mind Phoenix beat me to the punch. As the female suddenly started to check me over as she cupped my face gently in her hands, her eyes bore into mine. I could feel a heat creeping up my neck to my face. Along with causing my brain to short circuit.

"I'm . . . I'm okay, just got nicked by a claw on the back of my leg," I stammered as I showed Phoenix where the claw of a Dilophosaur got me, whilst she let my face go.

I then watched as Phoenix's pupils turned to slits, blue eyes shinning dangerously bright as a low growl came from her. I watched in awe as the fire markings on the sides of her head seemed to glow and ripple slightly like an actual fire. It gave her beauty a dangerous ethereal look.

"I'm fine seriously. It doesn't even hurt," I told her although I didn't get a response from her.

Phoenix had knelt down in front of me as she took a proper look at the laceration on my leg. That was when I felt her gently graze it with her finger getting a wince from me, although Blue grumbled, probably something about what I said. Phoenix then slowly stood up, but the expression that was on her face caused me to gulp and laugh nervously as I felt that I was in trouble. Kinda waiting for a lecture from her, but all I got was a raised brow before she turned starting to walk back in the direction of where her and Blue came from. That caused me to tilt my head as Blue and I shared a look before following after her.

Blue had grumbled something to Phoenix who had turned her head slightly to look at him before he disappeared. I then continued to quietly follow after Phoenix, only for when we got to the old Visitors Center Phoenix leant against a tree as her calculating eyes watched my every move. That resulted in me fidgeting nervously as it was hard to tell what was going through her head and I really don't like the fact that she could be angry or disappointed in me. The thought actually terrified me and for some reason made me feel disappointed in myself, that I had gotten in the situation in the first place.

"I'm sorry. I know you're probably angry with me or disappointed that I had gotten myself into that mess in the first place. It was really stupid of me. I mean I had noticed something wasn't right when I noticed no herbivores were around, but my curiosity got the better of me--" I had rambled a bit after clearing my throat.

The tense atmosphere getting to me, but I had been cut off, by a hand gripping my wrist only to suddenly be held against a warm chest in both a comforting and protective hold.

"Stop talking," is all Phoenix muttered as she laid her head on top of mine.

It just caused me to let out a shaky breath as I tried to ignore the burning stinging sensation at the back of my eyes. We stayed like that for a while basking in the calmness and the not so tense atmosphere, Phoenix holding me gently yet firmly to show that she was there.

"I'm not angry or disappointed in you. I'm angry with myself that you got hurt and I wasn't there to protect you," Phoenix spoke her head still on top of mine, as she broke the quiet rubbing soothing circles onto my back.

"But it's not your fault. I'm the one who--" I tried to say although it was muffled by Phoenix's chest.

"Don't even try to blame yourself," Phoenix gently growled at me. It didn't seem hostile more like a protective kind of way.

"But it is," I argued despite the warning. Except Phoenix's hold on me tightened a bit.

"If it's anyone's fault, we'll blame the Dilophosaurs," Phoenix stated as she pulled away slightly to look at me with her piercing blue eyes, as if she could look into my very soul.

Actually I would not be surprised if she could.

"Deal. Also I know I'm more than likely grounded, but how screwed am I exactly?" I asked the girl curiously.

"Let's just say you're most definitely grounded in Blue's books. Plus he plans to give you a lecture when he returns," Phoenix mused with a glint of amusement within her eyes.

I just gave a small groan with a nod before she let me snuggle back into her again with a chuckle. I enjoyed the warm and safe feeling she gave off whenever I was in her arms. Although I did let out a small yawn. Phoenix and I were now laying in the big nest that Blue had made that was really comfortable and incredibly soft. All I knew before I dozed off snuggled into Phoenix's side, was the girl gently running her fingers through my hair gently massaging my scalp as it caused me to drift off into sleep.
