You glanced up from your desk as a particularly violent gust of wind buffeted the building you were in. It was only early afternoon, but it might as well have been midnight for how dark the weather was making everything. It was pouring with rain and had been for the whole day, the water coming down in harsh sheets against the windows. Papers were spread out in front of you and you were twirling a pen between two fingertips, feeling more than a little overwhelmed by how much work you had to do. You tapped a fingertip rhythmically against the hardback cover of a book as you mentally ran through your to do list.

You had been here all day since practically the moment you woke up, stopping only to get a quick cup of coffee and make sure you were still awake. A sigh passed your lips as you ground the heels of your hands into your eyes, doing your best to stay focused. With the weather as it was, you were even more tired than you might otherwise have been and it was definitely not helping. The most recent cup you had acquired was now bone dry, a dark ring staining the bottom and the rest of the porcelain now caramel coloured. You wanted to go and get some more but at this rate, you were never going to finish. You blinked rapidly a few times before leaning forwards once again. The sooner you carried on, the sooner you could finish.

Sebastian had just finished speaking to Bardroy about the Young Master's dining options for the evening and was in the process of taking tea up to his study. The demon's mind, however, was quite firmly on you. He knew how hard you had been working lately and had no doubt that you were still pushing at this very moment to meet your deadlines. Of course, Sebastian knew full well the stress you were under at that moment and how much work you needed to do, but he also knew you would keep going without a decent break until you burned out.

The demon knocked lightly on the Earl's door and went in after he heard the stern 'enter' from the other side. He greeted Ciel then explained the choice of afternoon tea, taking note of the various books the boy had littered across his desks and taking no time at all to work out that he was settling rent for the people who lived within the grounds he controlled.

"My Lord," Sebastian began, "I wonder if perhaps I might take leave of the manor for a while. Only a short trip; half an hour or so. Presumably you cannot finish all of this in that time?" He gestured expansively to the desk and its contents and offered a slightly raised eyebrow. Ciel on the other hand gave a vaguely irritated sigh.

"Is this him again?" He asked sighing once more when his butler nodded. "Very well then, but should I need you, I expect you to return immediately." The demon gave his thanks and left immediately, arriving at your door not a few moments later. When he found you, a reproachful look took over his sleek features at the state you had worked yourself into. He was leaning in the doorway behind you, one polished black Oxford crossed over the other and not surprised in the slightest that you hadn't noticed his presence. The demon straightened then strode across the room, making so little sound that you didn't realise he was there until a pair of cold hands landed on your shoulders. Sebastian grinned at the jolt that ran through your body, the shock of electricity no doubt racing up your spine.

"My love," he murmured softly, sharp eyes catching yours as soon as you turned to face him, your breathing still elevated slightly.

"Hi," you replied quietly, a slightly bashful smile starting to emerge. The demon tutted, gaze flicking over your shoulders to page after page of your handwriting and a line of empty cups. "My, my, Y/N, what have I told you about this, hm? You'll burn yourself out eventually, all humans do." His amber eyes took on just the slightest hint of crimson as he spoke. "I'll return shortly."

With that, he was gone, leaving you sitting alone once more. You muttered quietly to yourself for a moment about how vague he could be, then carried on with your work. It turned out to really only be five minutes before he came back. He took the trouble to lightly clear his throat this time, rather than terrifying you half to death.

"Can I sit with you?" The demon asked you as he approached, ready to pull a chair over from elsewhere in the room. Of course you said he could, but you didn't really look up from what you were doing as he joined you. With a short huff, he neatly plucked your pen from between your fingers and laid it on the desk, finally drawing your attention.

"I made you coffee," Sebastian continued seamlessly, leaning forward and passing the steaming cup to you. He couldn't help but chuckle at the look of joy on your face as you inhaled almost half of it in one go. You placed the cup on the table then wrapped your arms around him, resting your head on his shoulder. He smirked at how heavily you leaned on him, your entire being utterly exhausted, and embraced you in return.

"Now doesn't this seem familiar," he hummed, starting to trace circles on your back. You made some weak excuse about deadlines and needing to get things done, but you were already so tired that Sebastian's hands were making you doze off.

"Just rest," he told you, "you'll work far better for it."
