I look around and see Peyton show up to the scene and stands in front of me just in case Elle tries something. Everyone is standing around her and I while she's saying everything she possibly could about me from the clothes that I wear, how my hair looks, and the fact that she's more pretty and popular than me. I try to stand up for myself, but being the center of attention in front of most of the school is intimidating. Everyone has their cameras out and recording.

She backs up. "Aww, look at your little friend coming to the rescue," she says in a baby voice and a droopy bottom lip. "How pathetic."
Peyton points a finger in her face and I'm honestly surprised.

"Just shut up Elle. You think what you're doing is so cool because all of the cameras and you're getting the attention you want, but really it's embarrassing on your part. Go find something else worth your time."

Everyone "ooos" and "ahhs."
I tug her arm. "Let's just go." Even though this is humiliating enough, she doesn't budge.
Elle crosses her arms and swings her high ponytail off of her shoulder. She's chewing bubblegum and is smacking it as loud as she can, which is sending me off of the roof. "Well if you don't want me bothering her, how about you tell her to stop fooling around with my boyfriend?"

I look up from the ground and at her.. "Seriously? We're just partners for some stupid project."
"Oh come on," she raises her voice. "You and I both know that you're just trying to get with him."

Peyton doesn't even look or question me, because she knows it's not true. Douglas and I have done nothing but study together, and I can barely get him to do that.
'I didn't..." I stutter. "I don't want your stupid boyfriend." My voice grows soft and I can tell I'm about to break down.

Elle steps closer and is about to say something when someone shouts my name. I look to the left and right, and see a kid pushing through the crowd, smacking phones out of peoples hands.
"What? Yall think this is funny?" He yells, and soon enough, everyone runs off. My heart starts again.

"Where have you been?" I ask him, but he ignores me and goes straight to Elle. I swear I feel my stomach drop.
Elle starts to yell at him as he's pulling her arm away as they walk. Finally, she's able to let go of his grip and aggressively points at his chest, poking it.
"You're a dirty liar and a cheater." She growls. "I can't believe I trusted you all these years and put up with your nonsense!"

Douglas pushes her hand away but she keeps putting it back.
Ava pats my shoulder after watching for too long. "Let's go. We'll talk about it later." She begins walking in the other direction back to the dorms, but for some reason I can't move. My eyes are glued to Douglas as they're both arguing and fighting.

"Do you understand you will be nothing without me and you better know it because I can replace you with anyone on the football team in a heartbeat!"
She keeps going on and on about it and while she's shouting in his face, he turns to look at me. Locking eyes with him scares me, causing me to snap back to reality. I'm standing in the middle of the sidewalk, clouds covering the sun and birds flying west. It's about to rain.
