The Summer I turned Messy

Chapter 1

  As I was packing for the lake house, I hear a loud thud from brothers room. I storm down the hallway already knowing what's going on. As I open the door, I see a blonde tall girl closing the window and my brother running over to me. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" I slam the door behind me. "We're leaving for Michigan in 2 hours and you're sneaking a girl in?" "Jenna, stop acting like you're my mom. Mom and Dad are dead, and now I can do whatever I want." he says as he points to the door.

Our parents died in a car crash 3 months ago, so I thought for this summer it would be nice to go up to the Hughes lake house. As I return to my room, I feel a buzz in my pocket. I pick up my phone to see I'm getting a call from Jack, I immediately swipe up to answer.

"Hey, what's up?" I say happy to hear from Jack. "Hey Jenna, I just wanted to let you know that Trevor, Alex, and Cole are also going to come up for the summer too, is that ok? I'll let them know if it's not." I take a moment, trying to remember all those names. Then it comes to me, "Oh! Yes, that's ok." Jack lets out a breath. "Haha good, I thought you were going to say no." "I wouldn't say no, why would you think that?" there's a silence on the line. "Well.....you know, with your parents and everything, I thought you'd just want to have a summer with us, like old times." "Jack, it's fine." "Ok, thanks Jenna, see you soon."

I hang up the phone and finish packing, maybe Jack was right. Maybe I was secretly was hoping for a summer with just the Hughes. I zip up my suitcase and walk back to Greyson's room, thankfully the blonde wasn't there anymore. "Hey, do you need help packing?" he scoffs and turns to me, "No, I don't. I'm 19 and fully capable of packing my self." "Ok, and just letting you know, Trevor, Alex, and Cole are coming to the lake house too." He gets up fast and looks like a little kid who just got a new PS4. "Really?!" I let out a laugh through my nose "Yes, don't embarrass me!" "Actually, don't embarrass ME." he says dragging the out the E. 

I head back to my room, relaxing until it's time to go. To be honest, I was a little nervous to see Trevor and the whole group. I haven't seen them since I was 16, and that was for Jack's birthday, so I didn't even get to hang out with them a lot. I remember Trevor though, he was really flirty. Jack got mad at him that he was flirting with me, I remember he told him he'd make ME leave if he didn't stop flirting with me. 

I've liked Jack since we were 10, I've known him since we were born but I only started liking him at 10. To be honest,  I think he liked me for a day, but got over it once he got big in hockey. We're all best friends but I'm very close with Jack, I'd tell him about my boy problems and stuff like that. But this summer I want to find someone in Michigan, I have to finally let go of Jack......or maybe I'll get lucky and he'll finally see the glow up I had. 

I'm not one to brag, but I've for sure had a glow up. The last time Jack saw me was when we were 17. Now we're both 22. I don't post on instagram or tiktok so he hasn't actually seen me. I close my eyes and dream about what will happen this summer, let's hope this dream can become my reality.
