Chapter 12

picking up from last chapter

Jack and I walk into the kitchen and sit down. No one's in the kitchen or living room so I sit at the island and put my head down. "you ok?" Jack asks and puts his hand on my thigh. I nod and pick my head up. "my head hurts." "I'll make breakfast" Jack says and smiles. I nod and put my head down again.

Jack wakes me up and I eat my eggs and toast. Once I'm done, I clear my spot and sit down on the couch. All the boys come down and I decide that's my que to leave. I walk up the stairs and lay down.  After a few hours I notice I was on my phone for so long that I forgot to eat. Before I walk downstairs, I check outside and see it's thundering and raining pretty bad. 

As I head downstairs I overhear a conversation going on in the living room. "so Jacky, you like Jenna?" Alex asks and grins. Thankfully they couldn't see me, so I could eavesdrop all I want. "ew no, she's like a little sister." "but you slept with her?" "slept in a bed, she came into my room all tired, I couldn't just send her away" they all nod and turn back on their show. I decide to walk downstairs and make it known that I just heard the conversation they had. I walk downstairs and avoid eye contact with any of the boys. Jack snaps his head over to me and mutes the TV. "you ok?" I grab my shoes and put them on. I turn the doorknob and walk outside. I slam the door behind me and start walking down the street.

I hear the door open and Jack screaming for me to come back. I can't believe I was lead on by the playboy that Jack is. I feel like a fool believing that Jack could actually like me. I'm already at the end of the street and I turn to see if anyone's there. No one. I pull my hood over my head more because the rain has gotten very hard. I text Gia, letting her know I'm coming over. Her house was 35 minutes away so I decided not to send it because she would insist on me staying home. I decide to walk to a local park that was 10 minutes away.

5 minutes in and my fingers are numb, my lips are blue, and I'm drenched. I can't walk anymore so I sit down and lean against a fence, hoping someone would find me.

Jacks POV

I run in the house and sit down angry at how stubborn Jenna is being. "did she hear?" Cole asks, and I nod. "you should go get her, the rains really hard." Quinn says. "no, she did this to herself." "well if you won't, I will." Trevor says and gets up. I push him down and stand over him. "stay out of it Trevor." I sit back down and check my phone for any notifications. None.

Jenna's POV

I'm cold and tired. I feel like I'm about to pass out when I decide I have to text Jack. But before I can reach for my phone, everything goes black. I wake up to someone shaking me, it's a woman, she looks around 35. "do you need me to call someone?" I can't respond, my body is numb and I feel my self starting to get tired again. She pulls out her phone and dials someone. 5 minutes and an ambulance pulls up on the side of a road.

I shake my head, not wanting to get in. But I'm not strong enough to speak. They get me on the stretcher and into the vehicle. Minutes feel like hours, and we finally get to the hospital. They bring me into the ER and loads of doctors rush over to me. I never wanted this to happen, I needed a short break and it turned into me being in the hospital. I feel a tear run down my face and I slowly wipe it away. 

I feel so much of my energy drained from just moving my arm. 10 minutes later I'm in my own room. I'm in a hospital gown and covered in layers of blankets. A nurse comes in and tells me they need to call someone. I decide to give them Cole's number. They call Cole and tell me he sounded concerned but is on his way over with friends right now. I sigh and wait for the lecture that is yet to come.

Jacks POV

We're watching a tennis game when Cole gets a phone call. "who is it?" Alex asks being curious. "random number." He puts his phone down, but I feel like it's important. "just pick up the phone, it could be Jenna calling." "Jenna has her own phone" Greyson says like it's obvious. "well what if it died and we need to pick her up. Cole finally picks up the phone and his facial expression changes from calm to concerned.

"yes? ok. what? oh yeah of course." Cole jumps out of his seat and rushes to put on his shoes. "what's wrong?" we all ask at once. "Jenna's in the hospital, I don't know why but they called me for some reason." I was shocked by what I just heard, I wonder why Jenna chose Cole out of everyone. Everyone decides to stay back besides me and Quinn. 

Jenna's POV

I'm resting my eyes when I hear my door slam open. I open my eyes and see Jack, Quinn, and Cole standing there staring at me. "what happened?" I try to speak but the words get caught in my throat. "Jenna?" Quinn asks, all of them waiting for an answer. "I fell because I was cold I guess. I say and shrug. Jack comes over to me and puts his hand on mine. I quickly pull back my hand and rest it on my stomach.

"you heard, didn't you" Cole says, Quinn standing next to him. "yeah, and it doesn't matter. I needed to go on a walk but got cold, I can go home." I end up yelling and my the heart monitor starts going up. "calm down Jenna." Quinn says running over to me. I do what he says and lean back.

A few hours later and Jack and Quinn are sleeping on the chairs in my room. Cole went to sign the discharge papers. Once he's back, he sits down on my bed. "Jack probably didn't mean it in a rude way" "he said ew Cole." "well why do you care so much?" "Cole, I've liked Jack for 13 years. Not once had I thought about dating anyone else because I felt to guilty, like I was hurting Jack or something. Even if I saw him with some other girl, I wouldn't let that stop me from liking him because I believed we were meant for each other. Every time I saw a shooting star, or a four leaf clover, or 11:11 on my phone I made a wish, I wished Jack would finally like me after all these years. I rejected a prom date because Greyson said he was sure he'd ask me out. So yeah, I'm gonna be a little mad when my childhood crush says ew to me."

 I look over at Jack and notice he's not asleep anymore, instead he's staring directly at me, wide eyed and mouth hanging open a little. The nurse walks in and tells me I'm good to go. I get up fast, grab my bag and Cole's hand and run out of there as fast as I can.
