My eyes slowly peel open as a bright, blinding light awakens me. The first thing I noticed was that I was surrounded by pure white walls in a rectangular room.

What happened to me?

"Ah, you're awake" a soft, beautiful voice echoes. It was neither feminine nor masculine. I searched around for the owner of the voice, but the room was empty.

"Welcome to The White Room " the voice continues

White room?

"You must be confused. This is The Room of Upya, The Room of Rebirth"

"Rebirth?" I finally ask. My voice almost surprised me. That's the first time I've heard my own voice.

"Ah, right, you've probably forgotten. There's no pleasant way to say this, but on the 10th of April, 2018...you took your own life."

It took a moment for those words to sink in. I can't remember dying or anything about my life besides my name. How am I supposed to react? I don't feel happy, sad or even scared.

I just feel...empty

"Your life was shortened, and your fate was changed. The unnatural death you have caused has not only impacted your life but the life of another. However, you've been given a chance to be reborn to fix what you have destroyed."

Suddenly a large, wooden door appeared against the wall. It had strange markings on the frame and a neatly written sign.

"This door belongs to a human born with an unfortunate fate. A fate that leads to sorrow."

The once-dark window now emits a yellow light. I cautiously approach the door and peer through the window. There was a black-haired man in a dark bedroom. He was lying in his bed and staring at the ceiling. His cheeks were dampened by his own tears, and there were faint cuts and bruises scattered around his face and arms.

He looked so sad. So alone.

"This door belongs to Jeon Jungkook. You were fated to find this man and save him; however, your untimely death will force him to follow a more unfortunate and devastating fate. You will now have to pay the price for interfering with the natural order of life."

"Pay the price? But why am I being punished for another person's fate?" I ask, confused.

"Because you are connected to this man by the red thread of fate. Humans call them soulmates. Your death has altered his life course and on the 11th of April, he will take his own life.

I suddenly felt a tug. It was almost like a phantom tug. I peer down at notice a glowing red string wrapped around my pinky. It was leading through the door. I moved my hand around, and the string floated behind.

"The thread can not be seen by others, and you won't be able to remove it"

The string suddenly disappears

"There is a chance to redeem yourself. You will be sent back to save him and fulfil the fate you were destined to follow. If you succeed, you will be given a chance to be reborn."

"What happens if I can't save him?" you question

"If you fail, you both will die. But only you will be punished. That punishment will be an eternity of pain and loneliness. You will not pass into the spirit world, and you will not rest in peace. That is the price you would pay."

Well, that's great. I have to do this.

"You have to save him before the 10th of April. You will only have 30 days to do this."

"30 days? But that seems impossible. Can you at least give me some details on what I'm supposed to save him from?"

There was a second of silence as if the voice was thinking.

"I guess you're right. The only detail I can give you is that his stepbrother abuses him. The rest is for you to learn."

I let out a sigh. That's all I get?

I peer at the door again and watch the man on the other side. I'm not mad at him. I can't blame him for anything. That man was calling for me. I felt a tug once more. It was almost like he was pulling the string, calling for me to save him.

I reach for the handle and open the door.
