Chapter 16

The excitement of new activities fuels Lyla as they return home. She hasn't had new toys in a long time, and even when she did have new toys, they weren't really new toys.

Entering the apartment Lyla flings her shoes off her feet and grabs the bag from Justine. As she runs past the kitchen table Justine announces "No no, not yet Lyla."

Lyla with wide eyes says "What? But.. You said I could have them.."

Justine "You skipped your nap. You need to take that first. After your nap, they will be all yours okay?"

Lyla's sleepiness and stress start catching up with her as she whines "But.. I wanna play with them.. they are mine.. you said.."

Justine smiles compassionately "They are yours, and they will be yours after your nap. You already nursed at the doctor's so you shouldn't need to again until dinner. For right now it's Nap-Time."

Lyla looks to the bounty of toys "No."

Justine raises her eyebrows in a maternal reaction "Excuse me?"

Lyla "No, I don't want to. I want to play with these."

Justine "You can cuddle your kitty for Nap-Time but you are not allowed to play with anything else until you nap."

Lyla huffs "I don't need to be allowed! I can do it if I want to. Why do I need to be 'Allowed' that's stupid!"

Justine sighs, the uncomfortable nursing, all the mall steps carrying her large chest around, and the addition of carrying the purchases have begun to catch up with her too. "Lyla, You can't even tell how tired you are right now. You need a nap."

Lyla whines "I don't! I just sleep when I want to, I don't have nap times."

Justine walks over to Lyla "Sweetie, you do. After breakfast, lunch, and dinner you take a nap. Those are your naptimes, and we skipped one today and it shows."

Lyla looks back to her back of toys and then back to Justine, her blurry tear-filled vision returning.

Justine brushes Lyla's hair out of her face. "I am and have been taking care of you, and as long as that is happening you need to listen to me. I love you, and I want the best for you. Right now that is a nap."

Lyla mutters "It's... It's not fair.."

Justine lovingly replies "I know honey, It's not fair, but you're so tired. Let's just head to bed and I'll put all the toys on the coffee table for when you wake up, deal?"

Lyla sniffles "fine."

Justine "You can nap with your kitty but you need to go potty okay?"

Lyla sniffles again as tears start to fall "I... I don't want to, we.. we just went.."

Justine hugs her small sad friend "That was almost an hour ago at the mall, go for me again. The faster you go the faster you can nap."

Lyla sniffles her way to the bathroom, her sniffles and tinkles filling the apartment with sound while Justine collapses on the couch exhausted.

Lyla leaves the bathroom and heads to her bedroom still sniffling, Justine stands back up with a tired groan "Good girl Lyla, want me to rub your back?"

Lyla replies with a sniffle and a faint "..Yes please.."

After the nap assistance Justine heads to the kitchen to make herself lunch, her tummy still grumbling. She realizes a pretzel isn't enough food for the entire day so she starts cooking up something for herself.

While things are cooking she starts organizing the puzzles, and games out on the coffee table for Lyla to see right when she wakes up. She uses the time to tidy up the living room and kitchen before finally getting to sit and enjoy a meal
